Granulosa Cell Tumor and Hysterectomy

I was diagnosed early last year with an encapsulated Granulosa Cell Tumor and had the affected ovary removed. My oncologist recommeded the 'conservative' approach for me - no hysterectomy, no chemo, only bloodtests and CT Scans. Shortly thereafter I was blessed with a miracle pregnancy and delivered late last year. I am in my early 30's and have 4 children and do not foresee having more babies. With that in mind, my oncologist now recommends a total hysterectomy and removal of the other ovary. I would like some objective information. . . Is there anyone that had a similar situtation with a later hysterectomy? Does anyone have any statistics on how my risk of recurrance will be affected by having a hysterectomy or not? Thanks, Mutende

RE: Granulosa Cell Tumor and Hysterectomy

Hi.My mom had a full hysterectomy 9 years ago and still had Ovarian Cancer which we just found out last year even her Ovaries are not there anymore. I mean even if you will have a full hysterectomy, there is no guarantee that you will never have Ovarian Cancer or any type of cancer like fallopian ,stomach, etc. There is no assurance.Like my mom's case until now, they don't know where her cancer started... but they just told us that more or less its Ovarian Cancer because of the CA125 level marker which is in the Female reproductive system. I hope my mom's experience help you somehow. God bless and take care.
