second look surgery

Has anyone undergone second look surgery after recovering (one year) from the initial ovarian cancer surgery? It is to look for any cancer remaining and to confirm or not that it still exists.

RE: second look surgery

Has your mom had a cat scan? If her numbers are still within normal range, why would she have a second look surgery?Just so youi know - My ca125 is 1100 has been climbing for two years and my cat scan onlky shows minimal microscopic ascites. I havd one recurrence after one year and now I am over two years out without treatment. Everyone is different with this disease. Second look is no picnic. Just dont understand why this is a consideration. Normally the docs waite for doubling and tripiling of numbers.I know my case is not the norm. Most docs do not treat numbers alone.I am on Tomoxifin, and I think my ca125 is crazy due to inflamation on my right hip.Where do you live? What hospital does your mom go to? Is her doc a gynicalogical oncologist? If nothing else - I would get her a second opinion. Good luckBarb

RE: second look surgery

HI there,I am an ovarian cancer patient myself, have been fighting this on and off for almost four years. I have never heard of someone taking a second look through surgery. My doctor didn't want to do more surgery since it is so hard to recover. Also, that is what they have CT scans for, to give them a good picture of what is going on inside. The scans will show if there is some growth still in there without the pain of the surgery.Hope everything works out well. Laura
