Once a month I have a Sandostatin shot.  My blood values are again normal,  my cancer markers are down to 9. However yesterday I had a test and it showed that my thyroid stimulating hormone is very very high 18.42 in comparison to the reference range of 0.34-5.60.  I will not be able to discuss this with my doctor until next week. In the meantime I have so many question since I do not know why these values are so high.  If anybody has an answer I would appreciate it.  Thank you Siegrun  Siegrun Thu, 06 Mar 2008 00:00:00 GMT I wouldnt think that an elevated TSH would have anything to do with the cancer.  Usually this is elevated if you are experiencing hypothyroidism - this is common and can be treated with hormone therapy.  There should be alot of information on the web.  Try  webmd.  Best of luck to you Live4him Fri, 28 Mar 2008 00:00:00 GMT In short I think bowel obstructions interfer with the absorption of thyroid medication. There is also correlation between carcinoid and autoimmune thyroid disease..                                                                             Carcinoid cancer does effect thyroid disease and its treatment. I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis an autoimmune type of thyroid disease. For years my thyroid treatment and lab work was deemed to be stable but the symtoms never really improved and then my annual tsh test was extremely high again despite being faithful to my medication regiment. After readjusting and stabilizing over time my muscle function was deteriorating. Another yearly lab test showed no tsh and wild t4. After full endocrine labwork all results were normal.  I lost the strength in my structural muscles and was severely hurt. Simple tasks, lifting my arms and head, became difficult I suffered constant muscle spasms and fasciculations among other symptom. When my small bowel carcinoid tumour was resected my thyroid disease finally stabilized along with some symptoms. It has taken 7 years to regain some muscle stability. Since both conditions are endocrine it is hard to know which causes what since catcinoid tumours can release so much.. I have alot fibrosis  and tumor seeds that acts like cement.
