LEEP Procedue

Hello all...I found this site by accident, but it seems to be pretty helpful..I myself was diagnosed with an abnormal pap, detected HPV, with high risk cervical cancer. I got a little worried, was more worried about my current boyfriend. I went in to have the colopscony and found that my body was built different so that procedure couldnt be done. My dr. scheduled me for the LEEP Procedure, on a Wed. The procedure went well, i was under and when i awoke it was all done...although i did have some severe abdominal pains. They gave me meds for that. I went home and was ok..slightly sore still...it is now almost a week later and I am cramping and discharging and omg...that smell....lower back aches and can't lift to heavy of things, don't do as much as i normally would do. something new too is that i am going through an emotional rollercoaster, i cant stand it...grrrr I got some of the answers I was looking for, like how long will this cramping and discharge go on. I have a follow up drs. appt on march 17th, thats when i will find out if its bad or ehh or nothing to worry about. I read that people feel dirty for having the HPV, it is nothing to feel dirty about....atleast i don't...not overly proud of it, but don't feel dirty. whats done is done...we move on and fix our mistakes and pray that they don't get worse. (hopefully, i wont' change my story after i get my results, lol j/k) I wish everyone of you ladies out there that had to have this procedure the best of luck. there are women out there, that in the matter of minutes, have helped me feel better, by knowing i am not alone in the emotional part. I will keep you updated with my results and will be back if i have some more questions and would be happy to answer anyones questions, with regard to the procedure. take care and good luck :)

Hi Hun, I just found this site myself, and yes, lots of good info. I have read that 80-90%of the population has some strain of HPV. If I had a teen-aged or pre teen girl I would DEFINATELY have her get the shots!! I did a leep many years ago, before they did them with anasthesia...OMG That TRULY SUCKED! I'm glad you don't remember anything, thats how it should be! I know its hard but you *will* feel "normal" again, it just takes time...make sure you give at least that much to yourself...time :) Please keep us updated. HugsLori 40 in California1990-1997 HPV, LEEP, 5FUJune 1997 Hysterectomy~Endometrial and Cervical CancerDec 1998 Lumbar surgeryAug 2001 Lumbar surgeryFeb 2008 Vulvar lesions excised,Vaginal biopsies performed.March 2008 VIN3May your Joy be Pure Joy,and all your Pain, Champagne...

RE: LEEP Procedue

First of all, I'm sorry you had that done. Secondly, if the discharge smells and you are in pain, you may have an infection, which unfortunately is one of the risks of LEEP.What I want to ask you is this: Did the doctor show you the actual lab report? I'm a little perplexed as to why the doctor decided to do a LEEP without doing a biopsy, first.I didn't feel dirty after being diagnosed with HPV, but I did feel angry at the world of gynecology for failing women, badly. There should be therapeutic medication by now. It made me determined to be an advocate for women's health to get better treatment for HPV than partial amputation. However, we are in exciting times in that Roche is having success with a vaccine that is clearing up HPV-16 caused dysplasia. There are at least two other drug companies working on therapeutic medication, too.In regards to LEEP, it was the wrong procedure for me. For many women, it is the right procedure. Unfortunately, my wounds take a long time to heal and are vulnerable to infection, and LEEP has the highest risk of infection. As a result, I had nonstop, heavy discharge for two months. It turned into an infection. I was terribly weak the entire time. I could not physically sit comfortably during my work day for three months. Four months later, the wound finally healed, but I still hadn't been able to have intercourse because the area was so raw. In short, LEEP destroyed the quality of my life. I already told my doctor if the dysplasia comes back, I insist on laser. I recently had the HPV DNA test done because I want to know which strain(s) I have. That would open or close the door to being Roche's guinea pig, right there.

I am having a hysterectomy next Friday and I was just wondering what are those surgeries you have had since your hysterectomy. I have severe displaysia and HPV so my DR seems to think this is going to help all my problems and I am very hopefully it will, that is why I was wondering about your recent surgeries. Thanks for any help! I am very nervous as I have had c-sections with both of my children and will have to be cut again. Thanks again!
