RE: Biopsy Second Opinion

Dear friend, although I am sorry that I'm unable to answer most of your questions, I can tell you that my brother didn't have any recommendations from a doctor when he went to The Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. for a second opinion.was diagnoised with prostate cancer. He went on the internet to get the info. that he needed, called down there and they set everything up for him. You can type in Anderson Cancer Center on the computor, and it will bring up all kinds of info. My brothers insusrance paid for the medical procedures there, however he is not on medicare yet, but I presume that medicare would do the same, but it would be wise to check with your insurance carrier as well as the Anderson Cancer Center. Unfortunately Insurance. at least his does not pay for transportation there and back, or for hotel, food etc. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but hope that this info. will help alittle. On 3/11/2008 danbFla wrote:Was diagnosed with PC 1-1/2 years ago with 10 needle biopsy and pc in 10% of one core and GS = 10. I have been WW since that time and PSA has stayed low, around 1. I had a second biopsy several weeks ago and go the results today, benign and PIN in two of 12 needles, no tumors observed. This leads to more questions than answers. I'm not comfortable with the lastest Path report and would like to get a second opinion. Also, I never got a second opinion on the first test results 1.5 years ago, is it to late to get a 2nd opinion on that test? Does anyone have any recommendations for a good Pathologist and how do you go about this? Do I just contact a good Cancer center like MD Anderson or John Hopkins and ask them for a second opinion or does my Urologist do this? Does Medicare pay for second opinions? Thanks for your help.

Go to drslawin.com He was actually my 3rd opinion -- fantastic folks there. Slawin was with Baylor and is now with Vanguard. Look him up.On 3/11/2008 danbFla wrote:Was diagnosed with PC 1-1/2 years ago with 10 needle biopsy and pc in 10% of one core and GS = 10.

I just used my pathology report from my diagnosis and let the second opinion doctor follow up with that information. On my pathology report there was one pathologist that done the report and a second pathologist agreed with his finds. It would seem strange to me that the second report didn't show any cancer when the first one did. I can see why you have questions. I hope this was helpful.
