Doxil

Hello everyone. I'm looking for some advice for my mother-in-law. She has stage 3 ovarian cancer. She had surgery in July on 07 and then had her chemo ( i believe she had toxal?) She had then developed neuropathy. Her chemo really took a toll on her. She was sick and in pain. Then in the later part of November she was admitted into the hospital for her leg. She had some blockage in her leg and they went in with a camera and thought they might have found out were the blockage was so they tried to open up the artery and see if that would relieve some of the pain and get the blood flowing. It did not work so in January of 08 she ended up losing some of her foot. They had amputated the toes. Prier to the surgery for her foot she had gone for a CT scan that the cancer Dr had ordered. She found out about 2 weeks ago that the CT scan has show that the cancer has spread to her stomach. So they sent her for another CT scan to confirm it and so it was. The Dr suggested that she try Doxil. I've been reading about it and I'm not sure if that is going to work for her. Due to her foot not healing at the rate it should i'm wondering if this is going to work for her? We meet with the foot Dr on Friday and we will get his imput on this. I'm hoping to meet with both Dr and see if this Doxil is safe and will bennifit her. I'm worried about her losing the rest of the leg So it seems like this just keeps going and going and going. . So if anyone might have any suggestions I'm am really looking for some. My prayers are with each and everyone of you. Take care and God bless.

RE: Doxil

I am 62 years old and diagnosed with stage 3c ovarian ca five years ago. I initially had taxol & carboplatin and at three months, they had me have a CT, They found that the cancer had come back. I was put on Doxil. It has been great for me...so good that I had 26 treatments of Doxil. It was not without it's problems....hand and foot syndrome. They had to delay treatment for a while and I was put on steroids. Treatment resumed a few weeks later. I have CT scans every 4 months as the ca125 does not always works for me...and everything has been great, so far. I am having a CT scan on April 3rd and will know more then. One of the good things with Doxil is that you do not lose your hair! If there are any questions that I can help with...please contact me. Donna

Well thank you for the info. My mother-in-law did go see the foot Dr today and he looked over the paper work the cancer Dr gave her for Doxil. He told her that she has two legs and only one life. That was how he left it. So I guess now we need to sit down with the cancer Dr and discuss the doxil and get her going. Please keep her in your prayers. Thank you again for the info. Take care.
