Dad declined treatment

It's only been about 4 weeks since my dad's diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer. So much has happened. Two weeks after his diagnosis he became so dehydrated that he was going into renal failure. He's since rec'd IV fluids, anti nausea meds and is gaining weight again. He was to have the Whipple performed with a by-pass for drainage 3 days ago, but has declined further treatment. He's 72, feeling strong at the moment and has reason to believe that the cancer is in the lymph nodes or matastised. I'm glad he has declined the Whipple. He will be stronger for longer without the sugery. I don't know if doctors are telling the whole story when they offer the Whipple as an option. From what I've read on-line it is only a temporary fix and the cancer most likely comes back. He is given 6 mons. and is in the care of an at-home hospice. He's sitting up, walking, eating, going for rides in the car and even eating out at resturaunts. I know that things can change so quickly. He also is so thin already, I know he doesn't have much room for loosing weight. I'm glad to have time with him feeling well, but am a little afraid of what's to come. God give me courage. Thanks for listening.

You might try ordering Prosure for your dad. You can order it from a pharmacy. It's like Ensure but with fish oils (you can't taste them). Some research from Johns Hopkins indicates that fish oil might slow down the muscle wasting. Good luck and God bless.

Thanks for listening. My thoughts and prayers are with you, my mom has just went through the whipple procedure and is now getting ready to see about chemo., I don't think she will go through with it. The surgery was too much and the doctor says the chemo will be much more intense. At 73 she is tired and hopes to enjoy a little of what she has left. Myself I don't know what to do or give any advice of what to do? All of this is confusing and frustrating. who knows what to do next?
