Canine Bladder Cancer

Hello everyone,This is my first post. My Min Pin Cosmo started to show small amounts of blood in his urine last Oct 07. After trying 2 different types of antibiotics without working fro a period of about 3 weeks, an ultrasound was performed and a small mass was found in his bladder. Cost was an issue in deciding not to have a biopsy performed to confirm TCC but from everything I read and our vet's suspicions it's most likely is. My vet did tell me that 9 1/2 is a bit early for TCC but not unheard of. Also the position of the mass made an operation not an option. After about a week of being in shock, I started him on 2mg of piroxicam as recommended by our vet and since then there has been no more blood in the urine. If Cosmo does have cancer, he doesn't know it. He acts the same way he always has. The only difference is since Oct we have to let him out every hour in the daytime or else he'll pee in the house. At night we put him in the crate until morning and seems to be fine. Last week he had a regularly schedule vet appt and the vet mentioned she could now feel the tumor. At this point I will keep him going until I see any signs of suffering or he can no longer go the bathroom. Then we'll know it's time.. The vet said he could be fine for another 6 months. Only thing we're given him is 2 mg of piroxicam once daily and he seems fine with that. Other than the constant pee-pee in the daytime he's doing great that's why i'm still in denial about the whole thing. I'm interested in hearing from any other Min Pin owners going through this.
