Shark Cartilage

My mother was admitted to the hospital, she had IBC. This was the last month of her life. She ended up with a bacterial invection in the colon area.... During this time she was given shark cartilage without the doctors knowing while in the hospital.1. Is it wrong to sneak and administer shark cartilage into a hospital with out the doctors knowing?2. What complication can shark cartilage add to the colon bacterial invection?
