efudex

My husband and I are using efudex. Our doctor told us that we can now use sunscreen, when we couldn't when we used it 10 yrs ago. A friend just finished her treatment and her doctor told her not to use sunscreen or anything but cetaphil face wash and a pertroleum based cream. It seems to have changed a bit in the last 10 years since we first used it. Any updates out there that can enlighten us?

Sorry to hear that you have to take a 2nd treatment of Efudex. I am already dreading if that could possibly happen to me again someday. I just bought my 3rd tube of SPF 70 sunscreen. I have been putting it on every day since my treatment ended. I got a spray bottle this time.I'm not sure about the sunscreen during treatment, I was only told to wear sunscreen after my treatment was finished. As far as medical advances, this thread was very interesting and explained the difference between Efudex and Carac. It seems that the advances are what you mix with the Fluorouracil.http://www.cancercompass.com/message-board/message/all,21073

Hi, Ranchers and Aceace! My dermo started me on 5-FU to the face last Monday, and she said I could use sunscreen from the get-go. She suggested Neutrogena spf 30 For Sensitve Skin. She said this one doesn't have the chemicals. Just be sure to wait at least 2 hours after applying the chemo. The Neutrogena 70 is great also, and she said that is fine to use from the get-go, too, but if it stings, use the 30. Have a great day!
