very worried

Hi I am a very worried mum for my 3 year old daughter, approximately 2 weeks ago she developed a lump in her neck which is about 3cm accross and very hard, we took her to hospital straight away as it literally came up instantly, they said it was her lymph nodes but as she was not unwell I would have to go to my gp for a referal to a specialist, they said to leave it a couple of weeks and see if it went first. I have done my own research and have now convinced myself she has non hodgkins lymphoma. Her other symptoms are loss of appetite, really itchy hands, a rash on her body and she seems to get tired really easily, plus her stomach always seems to look really bloated, I am very worried. I do have an appointment to see my gp tomorrow morning but any advice would be of great helpThanks Fiona

its unlikely. 90% of swollen nodes are NOT cancer, especially in children. All the things you described could be explained by other things. The only real way to be sure is to biopsy the LN, but they wont do that without some antibiotics and more time.

Hi just to let you know my daughter saw her gp this morning and he refered her straight away as an emergency case to hospita; to see a paediatrician. They were fantastic, they did loads of test bloods etc, xray and we finally got the call at 6.30 this evening to say she didnt have cancer as was their main concern she is still going to have ongoing treatment fromthem to find out what it is, they gave her some antibiotics to try and she goes back next week, hopefully we will know more, but a huge weight has been lifted to know its not one of the nasties ;)
