I just can not understant why is not almost everyone should be treated with Bexxar? All the reseach that I have done so far, leads me to Bexxar for a cure or for a list a very long term remission, without having to suffer the agony of savage chemos, rituxan, hospitals and that all that involves for oneself and for the family.I am just giving some links to follow that I found on internetlymphoma.org/atf/cf/{0363CDD6-51B5-427B-BE48-E6AF871ACEC9}/BEXXAR.PDF http://www.patientadvocate.org/index.php? p=246http://www.lymphomainfo.net/therapy/immunotherapy/bexxar.htm Can somebody answer this? We are looking for the possibility of going for it, as all other treatments are not working at this point.God bless you all¡¡¡¡¡¡¡Alejandra

RE: Why is not everyone using Bexxar?

God Bless you too Alejandra Following is information regarding common side effects of this treatment from one of your links. I have never taken chemotherapy so perhaps these are considered mild in comparison but I personally would not be comfortable putting my body through this.

Bexxar is given intravenously once a week for two weeks.
The most common side effects occurring in the clinical trials included neutropenia, thrombocytopenia and anemia that can be both prolonged and severe. Of 230 patients included in the safety data from five clinical trials, 63 percent had documented Grade 3 or 4 neutropenia, 53 percent had Grade 3 or 4 thrombocytopenia, and 29 percent had Grade 3 or 4 anemia. Twenty-seven percent of patients received one or more blood transfusions or blood cell growth factors, eight percent of patients experienced a serious infection and 12 percent experienced bleeding events; the majority were mild to moderate. The most common non-hematologic side effects included asthenia (weakness), fever, nausea, infection and cough. The BEXXAR therapeutic regimen was associated with a risk of hypothyroidism and human anti-murine antibody (HAMA) formation. Certain chemotherapy agents and ionizing radiation have been associated with the development of myelodysplasia (MDS), secondary leukemia and solid tumors. MDS, secondary leukemia and solid tumors have also been observed in patients receiving the BEXXAR therapeutic regimen. BEXXAR carries a warning about infusion-related reactions that may be induced by the administration of foreign proteins. Hypersensitivity reactions occurred in six percent of patients. Adjustments of the rate of infusion to control adverse reactions occurred in seven percent of patients. On 3/28/2008 Alejandrahe wrote: I just can not understant why is not almost everyone should be treated with Bexxar? All the reseach that I have done so far, leads me to Bexxar for a cure or for a list a very long term remission, without having to suffer the agony of savage chemos, rituxan, hospitals and that all that involves for oneself and for the family.I am just giving some links to follow that I found on internetlymphoma.org/atf/cf/{0363CDD6-51B5-427B-BE48-E6AF871ACEC9}/BEXXAR.PDF http://www.patientadvocate.org/index.php? Iwas on a clinical trial .The first for the Oncology center I was at. I have been in remission for almost 3 years and my doctor says I am doing fine. It was not with out a lot of side effects ,but like you I would like to know why it is not used more .Ido know that there are alot of different types of NHL and it is not used for all kinds. I would not know how to advise anyone because I don't know how I would have been had I not received it. Iwould like to know what you decide and how you get along with it.
I had a lot of hope in Bexxar. I was sure it was going to give me a long remission. At 3 months, no cancer. At 6 months the cancer was back. I am really disappointed. They went to more chemo and radiation and then Rituxan. Didn't take all the cancer away. Now I am too weak and worn out and damaged that I can't have any therapy. I will have a CT/scan in July, 6 months after the one that showed the cancer was still there. Then they will know how fast it is growing and I will have a better chance at guessing how long I have left.Kitty-living what is the last of her 9 lives.

Best to you Carolyn The doctors just want to go for RITUXAN again, the latest reseach that I found is this¡¡¡Fatal Infusion Reactions: Deaths within 24 hours of RITUXAN infusion have been reported. These fatal reactions followed an infusion reaction complex, which included hypoxia, pulmonary infiltrates, acute respiratory distress syndrome, myocardial infarction, ventricular fibrillation, or cardiogenic shock. Approximately 80% of fatal infusion reactions occurred in association with the first infusionPatients who develop severe infusion reactions should have RITUXAN infusion discontinued and receive medical treatment.Tumor Lysis Syndrome (TLS): Acute renal failure requiring dialysis with instances of fatal outcome has been reported in the setting of TLS following treatment of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) patients with RITUXAN. Severe Mucocutaneous Reactions: Severe mucocutaneous reactions, some with fatal outcome, have been reported in association with RITUXAN treatment.Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML): JC virus infection resulting in PML and death has been reported in patients treated with Rituxan. PLease help¡¡¡MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL¡¡¡¡

Can you tell me what were your plaquets count when you had Bexxar. God bless you My platelet count got down to 28 after I received the Bexxar. Normal is 140 -440 . With the help of neupogen injections for a long time.they finally got to an acceptable number. They are now 128 which is still on the low side, but alot better. I know it is a hard decision to make but I would probably do it again. At the time a got it my oncologist told me had talked to an oncologist that specialized in this an was told she thought Bexxar was the magic -bullet for this type of NHL. Hope she is right. Time will tell. Hope you the best. Carolyn

Bexxar is a great drug but its indication is for refractory follicular lymphoma. Several studies have shown great promise as front line therapy, so I agree, it will soon be standard.
