Low Fiber Diet For Colon Cancer Recovery

Hi! I have a friend who just had colon cancer surgery a couple of weeks ago. We, his circle of friends, are helping his wife by bringing them dinner each night. We were told that his diet must be low fiber, low spice, and very soft. He currently is not eating a lot. He still has lots of nausea. I researched on the internet for low fiber foods, since I feel virtually ignorant on that subject. From what I read, I thought he might be able to eat mashed potatoes and carrot souffle, but is it reasonable to think that he could eat meat yet? I saw a low fiber recipe for Shepherd's Pie. I can cook a roast in the crockpot and drain the fat off it, it would be very soft, but I am concerned that it is too soon for this type of food. Can anyone advise me as to what you found easiest to eat after your surgery? Thanks.
