what to do

Hello, My delema is that my esophagus is completly closed do to scar tissue .The top of half due to radation and the bottom part was due to a nick when they were trying to scrap it clean through my peg tube .Im not sure what direction to go in and how long should I wait to get something done. The doctors want to wait a year before they will even consider it .It has been 7 months since my last dose of radiation and all tests are clear.Any information that i can get would be helpful. thanks

Have you ever had a dilatation done? The doctors stretch your esophagus to make it more elastic both on the sides and the opening at at the bottom to help food go down. Some people need this done 6 or 7 times. I believe it to be a common procedure. It is common to have a lot of scar tissue in your esophagus after radiation. You may need to get the scar tissue taken out eventually but this should help. My dad had it done and now he is able to swallow much better.
