ULTRA SOUND CYST ON RIGHT KIDNEY

Just found out there is a cyst on my right kidney by recent ultra sound and scheduled for a CT scan on Thursday. Don't know what to expect, but it is scary. Would there be a difference in tumor or cyst evaluation or does the ultra sound just indicate a mass?

In my own experience an ultrasound showed a mass. It cannot tell if the mass is solid or not, that's why a CT was ordered.I hope it's nothing, butif it is a tumor it's good to find it early as possible. If you need to talk or have any questionsI would be glad to talk anytime Take Care John

RE: ULTRA SOUND CYST ON RIGHT KIDNEY

In 2006 when i had a 10 cm tumor removed off my left kidney they did see a small "cyst" on my right kidney and said they were going to monitor it. I did not have insurance and i was only 17 so ofcourse i ignored the fact. Now @ 21, after having a child i was told i couldnt have, i decided to go ahead and get this "cyst" checked out. The "cyst" turned into a hyper dense mass and went from liquid to solid with blood flowing to it which indicates that it is a tumor. I have had this for years now, and i have had pain for years and no one could figure it out. Turns out this is what it is from. They are going to remove the cancerous tumor from my right kidney and they will be removing half of the kidney along with a rib to get it out. I go into surgery on April 16,08 and i am pretty scared too. But Im telling you that you have nothing to worry about unless you let it go unattended. You are lucky they caught it now. Because there is a chance of it becoming dense. Dont be scared, ive been threw it and back again. This time it is alittle different. Hope i could help. Dont be afraid. Mary

MaryMary, one of my favorite names, thanks for the response and I wish you nothing but the best. It turns out that the cyst I have is benign and will be monitored as I go along. It is very small, less than 1 cm, a spot really and I am grateful for that. So, as you write there is always a looming chance of acceleration forming a tumor, but with Brigham and Womens and Dana Farber being local, my primary will be on top of it as well as I. I really feel for you and your situation, but what can you do? You must go on and days in the future of your life will be better. "Time of your life, kid"! Please let us know how you made out!!!!! Just think of all the people who will be with you in spirit, praying for your best outcome. Do not be shy about responding on this forum. It helps.
