Waiting on a diagnosis of biopsy from lump on right side of neck/collar bone area

I am a 29 year old otherwise healthy male. I discovered a lump on the right side of my neck, more near my collarbone area. I had it for about 3 months and it never went away or got smaller or bigger, at least that I noticed. I went to my doctor and got all the tests...blood, x ray, CT Scan. Blood work is all normal.CT Scan show three small nodules in my lung area as well as what appeared to be a swollen lymph node. When to a surgeon and had a needle biopsy done, but once sent to lab, they could not determine anything.Had an open biopsy done a few days ago and am now waiting on the results. As far as how I feel, I feel normal, no fever, no night sweats, nothing.I see my doctor on Mon, 4/7/08. I've been told it could be Hodgkins, non Hodginks, lymphoma, sarcoidosis...Any info/help will be great,,,thank you

RE: Waiting on a diagnosis of biopsy from lump on right side of neck/collar bone area

My husband (age 40 when diagnosed in Aug. of 2006) also had lumps on his right side of his neck. They were there for several months then they began to get bigger and increase in number. He started having night sweats and fatigue after that. His Doctor finally realized they were not cysts like we had been told and ordered a needle biopsy. The needle biopsy was inconclusive, so they also did an open biopsy. The results came back Hodgkins Lymphoma. The cancer was on both sides of his neck, on his sternum and small amount in the abdomen, and under both arms. After chemo and radiation he is in full remission and has been for a year now.Hopefully, yours will be okay and no cancer, but if so, I hope it all works out for you. You are young so that is a plus!

You havn't got the results back yet, and i know it's hard not to stress too much but try to distract yourself with other things while waiting - keeping positive is really important. I know that sound really difficult. My husband and i were back packing around morocco in Jan when we realised that the pain in his side probably meant that the cancer we thought we had 'got rid of' at 25 years old was back at 28. during the wait to get home for tests (to New Zealand via London and Thailand so 26 hours of fying time) we just had to put aside any potential worry otherwise you end up going mad, you can do it! (the cancer is back - in his chest)If you do have cancer my advice is;* research, research, research. Know everything you can and question doctors* Keep healthy, my husband is into martial arts and is on the mat about 15 hours a week - just because you have cancer doesn't mean you have to lie around the house all day - having it when you are young sucks but it does mean that your body is strong!* eat healthy, take supplements (again research) and drink a lot of healthy water (non-fluride etc)Hopefully you don't, go out and play some sport or to a movie or something

RE: *UPDATE* Waiting on a diagnosis of biopsy from lump on right side of neck/collar bone area

I know just the word cancer sounds so scarey. My husband, age 62 who was dx on July 15, 2007 with CNS Lymphomic Brain Tumor is in remission. He does not have the same type of Lymphoma that you do but the one note I want to pass on is:After high dose methotrexate treatments (chemo) he is in remission. Every one reacts differently to chemo. You have youth on your side and there are so many treatments for cancer and their side effects. It is a miracle that medicine has come so far. So remember you will be treated and cured! Keep the faith and as everyone has told you - keep a positive attitude. That makes the biggest difference. Our family never gave my husband any other choice but to keep going. We make him get up in the morning and get going. Some days it's a struggle for him but he does it.Talk about your feelings and concerns to friends. Let people in and keep your friends and family close, and especially remember God loves you. He will ride out the storm with you! I will remember you in our prayers.Lots and Love - God Bless You!Sheila

RE: *UPDATE* Waiting on a diagnosis of biopsy from lump on right side of neck/collar bone area

What a bummer! We don't want any new people in this club!At least you know what it is now. I was diagnosed in April 2006, started chemo (ABVD) on 10 May and finished 18 October 2006. My portacath got infected and I was very sick on several occasions. I ended up loosing 15 kg, which have now found me.The chemo drug I reacted to was Bleomycin - not good for your lungs. But find out what you'll be having, they give you a list and the reactions etc, but get on the web and have a look. One thing I wish is that they had a support group of past and present Hodgkin's patients. I think that would have been valuable.Everyone has different reactions to chemo, but keep going, sleep lots, drink water and eat whatever you are able to. This is just a speed bump - God's way of telling you to slow down and smell the roses! Also, something else is at the end of it for you. At least that's the way I look at it. I've got too much that I haven't yet experienced. I know you'll get through this, soldier on and rest.God blessKerrie

Have you found out anymore since the original diagnosis? I'm sorry to hear about the cancer, but hang in there. I was diagnosed with stage II 19 years ago and have never had a relapse. And so many advances in treatment have been made since then. Take care.

my symptoms match the ones you described exactly, only i have two small and painless moveable lumps just above the collar bone. no sweaty nights, itchyness or weight loss, which is why i've been putting it off -hoping it will go away since a week ago when i discovered it. thank you for posting your experience as it has helped me realize the severity of these symptoms. i'm going to the doctor... and im a little terrified :)

RE: Waiting on a diagnosis of biopsy from lump on right side of neck/collar bone area

I found a lump on the right side of my neck and I considered that a blessing because I went straight to my doctor and she scheduled a chest x-ray and a CT scan of my upper torso. The x-ray was negative was negative but a problem showed up at the base of my tongue. After a positive biopsy I had two chems which appeared to knock the cancer down. In June I am having my one year full body CT to see if anything is happening. In the meantime I playgolf, visit my five children and stay active in my community - you would be surprised how that helps put the thoughts of cancer in the back of the mind (I'm 73).

RE: Waiting on a diagnosis of biopsy from lump on right side of neck/collar bone area

I was diagnosed with Indolent small B cell follicullar Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma in Feb. '97. We did the watch and wait and it was just fine. Then in Dec. '03 I discovered a tiny BB sized bump on my right jaw bone. Doc couldn't feel it but ordered a CT/scan, then a Fine Needle Aspiration. They said it looked like it could be a lymphoma. By March '04 it was the size of a golf ball. I had no symptoms from this or my NHL. They removed the tumor and the salivary gland. It took 6 wks to get the Path report. It was Hodgkin Lymphoma, so I had to undergo chemo. I had ABVD. After the first treatment, I got an infection. Then they put in a port-a-cath (I hated the PICC lines). It never healed. I had a staph infection in the port-a-cath area. They tried everything and thought I was going to die. Well, God did take me out into space and I looked at the earth. I didn't care at all about it. But I wanted to be with my grandchildren. ZAP I was back. I was hooked up to monitors and someone at the nurses' station had the job of just watching mine. It must have happened between heartbeats. I went to sleep and woke up feeling much better. They took their tests and later the doc came in and told me I was going to make. I already knew that. The next month I couldn't breathe. I had Bleomycin toxicity. If I had waited 2 more days to go into the ER, they wouldn't have been able to save me. I had to stop ABVD one month short, so they did radiation. That was Oct.'04. The Hodgkin Lymphoma has been in remission. The NHL was for about a year. Came back more aggressive. Had another treatment that lasted less than 6 months. Had another treatment but all didn't go away. My body is so damaged and my immune system is worn out, so I can't have anymore treatments. My NHL is incurable.Hodkin Lymphoma has a very high survival rate, like in the 80's% or 90's%. I just went to a Lymphoma workshop in Seattle and we heard from all the Lymphoma specialists. HL is not bad to have. NHL can be helped, but I am told it is better to have HL. Apparently I am a rare case to have both and not respond to all the chemo and radiation. I've had problems with my mouth eversince because the radiation was of my mouth and throat. Now I find out that I have Hypothyroidism and they think it is from the radiation. Is there anything else that can go wrong besides death? I just have the worst luck.Hope you will get the correct diagnosis and if HL be hopeful because you have reason to be.Kitty
