The CT scans showed "bilateral adnexal cysts" so I went to see my gyn who sent me out for a pelvic TVS ultrasound - The results showed a complex cyst on my right ovary and a left adnexal echogenic MASS measuring 4.6cmx3.1x4.3cm- it said the findings are suggestive of a dermoid but tumors could not be excluded with certainty based upon the appearance of the adnexal lesions. My CA125 was 8.4 which I see is normal - I'm wondering if it's possible to have a low number but really have an early stage of ovarian cancer? The report also suggests possible follow up with MRI - what could an MRI tell that would be different from the CT scan or the ultrasound? My mother has history of endometrial and colon cancer so I am always concerned about getting cancer..any advice on how I should proceed is appreciated - Also would a laparoscopy or a laparatomy be used in this case? (I did have 2 c-sections in the past) Thanks Debbie Deb401 Fri, 17 Jun 2005 00:00:00 GMT I had a normal ca125 after they spotted a mass on one of my ovaries. Since my CA125 was normal, they wanted to wait 6-8 weeks to see if the mass went away. After about 6 weeks, I went to see my old gynecologist and did a scan. My mass was bigger so I had the one ovary taken out but was assured it probably wasnt' cancer. Several weeks later, I was told it was cancer. I then had the 'rest' taken out. It turned out my other ovary had cancer also. But in a nutshell, my ca125 was normal throughout the whole ordeal. Good luck and don't wait. I am already scheduled for surgery in August - I believe it's scheduled for a bilateral salpingo oopherectomy which is removal of the tubes and ovaries - I have a cyst on my right and a complex cyst and a mass on my left. I don't think they will know what they will take out until they go in and see what's doing. Can I ask you - did you have a laparascopy or a laparatomy? My dr said he will try a laparoscopy but may have to convert to a laparatomy depending how much scar tissue there is(I had 2 c-sections) or what they find so I'm very unsettled by the fact that I will go under anesthsia and not know what's being done till I wake up.
