CEA Tumor Marker

My Mom had the whipple surgery in 2005. She had no nodes and clean margins. She also had chemo and radiation. All scans have been clean and her markers have been normal.A month ago her markers were CA19-9 11 and CEA 3.1 with a billirubin of 1.1. The CEA is the highest it has ever been. So we asked for another reading in a month. We just received the results the CA19-9 was 11 the billirubin was 1.1 but the CEA increased to 3.5.The doctor does not seem worried but my mom is and I am as well. She never smoked and I understand the reading should be no higher then 2.5. I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen and how it turned out. What could cause this increase?

Go to this board and ask your question, it is much more active. Also you can use the search function in the upper right hand corner to search for posts related to the CEA http://pathology.jhu.edu/pancreas_chat/
