(Prostasol) Quercetin Plus

I had my prostate removed n 1999 and had a very slow rising PSA but four months ago it went from the steady 3.5 to 5.5. I took Quercetin Plus (prostasol) from Mexico. four pills a day for four weeks and just had the PSA done which came out to 0.0. The Dr. had it done again the next day incase there was an error and again it is 0.0. So now he is sending it to Salt Lake to see if something in the pills block the PSA reading. I have read about people using this with success...does anyone know if it masks the PSA reading? Thank you

RE: (Prostasol) Quercetin Plus

Hi, There are lots of men out there that get a lower psa from quercitin plus or prostasol etc. They are the new form of pc spes. If you go to the yahoo group natural prostate treatments. you will find alot of info on the subject. One explaination is that is has some estrogenic affects so it lowers the psa. The real question is does a lower psa always mean that the cancer burden is lessening? My husband also has prostate cancer and we have been taking a number of supplements eating a very healthy diet (organic )exercise and prayer. There are alot of alternantive treatments out there you have to do your homework and make decisions for yourself. My husband was on a herbal formula much like quercitin plus and his testosterone dropped and so did his psa. Please let me know what your doctor finds. I'll keep youin my prayers ask for guidance and believe.Lynn

Linda: Prostasol is much like the former "herbal" PC-Spes. The former had estrogen compounds along with warfarin, an anti-coagulant. Prostasol is likely a similar compound. It is not available from US sources. I assume you procured it from outside the US. If it is effective in lowering your psa then it has an effect on hormone balance in your body. Your physician can test estrogen and testosterone levels to determine any changes, assuming there was a baseline from before your prostasol initiation. Is your doctor aware of your use of this product? Has he seen the container it comes in? Why are you taking it if you are unaware of its action, apparently?

Thank you for your response. Yes, our doctor knows we are taking Quercetin Plus...which my husband stopped after the 0 reading. The product came from Mexico sold through Seacast Vitimins in Canada with no problem with FDA..however when we tried to get ProstaSol from Holland the FDA said we could get it for personal use howeve it would take some time to get it through the process. We are familiar with the story of PC Spes and talked to the plant in Mexico about the contents of the pills. Your suggestion about the hormone test is a good one...we do have a base line and will proceed on Monday to do that...Thank you...we are leaving for MD Anderson for a consult and then to Dr. Peiffer (Aeuskalup Hospital) Switzerland in May where they do traditional and holistic medicine and specialize in prostate. His scans are clear with a rising PSA and trying to avoid Lupron as long as possible since one can become immune in a short time where the herbs seem to work longer.

It is worth reading Dr Myers' book on hormonal therapy and diet if you havn't already done so.Dr Myers suggests testing levels of both Testosterone and Dihydrotestosterone which both have a role in PC and hormone treatments, to see if the treatment is doing what it's supposed to do.He also contends that most men who are diagnosed as hormone resistant are not. Some men find that if they have problems with one form of medication , another kind of drug can often work for them. I have seen reports from men who claim that "Prostasol" works for them: others have used it in intermettently.
