Erbitux (Centuximab)- Is it true?

Hi Everyone! My Dad is receiving treatments of Erbitux along with his Oxiplatin and 5 FU. He is doing great with all of his treatments, but he is starting to get a rash from the Erbitux. I have heard, 'The worse the rash, the better." Is this true? Those of you who have had Erbitux/Centuximab, is it true the worse the rash the better it is? If this is the case, then he is in good shape because it looks awful! I know that a lot of people do not have access to Centuximab but I know that some of you have written about it before, so maybe you can shed some light on this for me.Thank You!

HiSorry about your Dad, but YES, the rash is a good thing. It gets very, very ugly and also the feet and hands split. It is a miserable thing to go through, but the drug is supposedly worth it. My Mom is on it currently and hopefully, we will see some good results. Beth

Zina, The word is the worst the rash, infected cuticals, both on hands and feet and that adorable rash are signs the drug is working. I know the worse mine gets it seems my cea count goes down. When the rash etc. goes away cea goes up. I've been on Eurbitux for about 3 months. The other side I get is sores in my mouth like those on face, hands, and anywhere else it want's to be. :) Not pretty to look at and the other stuff certainly isn't much fun but when it works you hope it sticks around. :) i'm glad to hear your dads doing well with the Oxly and Eurbitux. I was on comptistar and Erbitux oh and of course that 5FU. My cea keeps going up and down so switching to put the Oxly, Eurbitux and 5fu next week so it is nice to see someone who is having success with that combination. Thank you for sharing and My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your dad.

Thanks for all of the kind words. My Dad has Stage IV Colon Cancer. He is still doing great, he had his 3rd treatment this past Wednesday. He is on 5FU, Erbitux, Oxiplatin. The rash is really the only symptom he has, and the Dr. prescribed a cream that has eliminated the itching. In other words, it isn't pretty to look at, (my Dad jokes and says he is 12 years old again) but I think it will work. I just wanted to see if anyone else has had success with it...it's always nice to bring a happy story home to my Dad.
