pain after surgery

I was diagnosed with Tonsil cancer stage IV ...I had a neck dissection and tonsillectomy on feb 26th, loosing the nerve to the right side of my tongue, shortly after getting home...I noticed a pain that occurs when I first place anything other than water into my mouth and onto my tongue, I dont have to chew or swallow...I get a searing pain on the right side of my throat and that runs to my ear canal, this dissipates after a few moments and after my meal I then get a searing / stabbing pain in my ear canal that last for a few moments...its to the point that I dont care to eat what so ever and have started to lose weight due to it...and Im just starting my treatments. Has anyone had the same type of pain? I think Ive been prescribed every pain killer...but Im certian this is a nerve issue / nueropathy, I have yet to get my doc to listen...any info is greatly appreciatedBrad

RE: pain after surgery

Hi Brad. I'm 6 months out of treatment for tonsil cancer, stage 4a. I had a follow up throat biopsy done under general anasthesia in January 08. Right after that I had hot/cold and sweet sensitivity and it felt like my mouth had hot prickly things in it. The sensitivity was bad enough that I went to my dentist thinking I had a bad tooth or something. Turned out ( according to my ENT) that I had post operative trauma along with a thrush infection. I took diflucan for the thrush and magic mouthwash before meals for the pain so I could eat. I dont know if this is what you are experiencing, but I would expect some answers from your ENT doc if I were you.Best wishes, Mike
