Nexavar & Rad-001

My brother was put on both Nexavar 2 pills once a day, and Rad-001 7 pills once a week.Started this treatment today. He has renal cell cancer. He had a kidney, both adrenal glands removed. Prostate cancer, and the part of his other kidney removed in the past. It seems this time the cancer has come back in several places, pelvis area and spots in the chest area, right femur bone. Now we are waiting to see what side effects are going appear. He is 62 years old and is a smoker.Anyone out there can tell me what to expect? And if they had any luck with these meds. Connie

My hubby was on Nexavar and had some extreme side effects with disease progression so he was set up to go on the RAD-001 trials but base line scans found brain mets so he missed out. He did go on torisel after the gamma knife surgery for brain mets, but the battle was lost for his after his 6th Torisel treatment, he could do no more. We did hear good things about the RAD-001 and wish you the best..

Conie:I had a kidney removed almost 4 years ago PRCC and in Jan of last year it came back on two lymph nodes and a leasion where the kidney was removed. I have been on Sutent and R001 for exactly 2 cycles and the results after each cycle has been outstanding, a reduction of approx 50% after the first cycle and another 50% after the 2nd cycle. The real question is will it last? As a cancer patient we can only hope that the drugs we take and the body we have will work in our favor for the long haul. I look at my life as one cycle at a time, knowing that I may be the lucky one who beats the odds. Lots of luck!!Respectfully, Myron

Thank both of you for replying to my msg. I know that you have to take a day at a time. My brother has been these meds now for 4 weeks and has developed a rash from his chest up to the top of his head. The dr.s' gave him a gel like cream to use and it has almost disappeared. He increase's one of the meds. starting tomorrow taking 2 pills twice a day. His pain is much better, he has gone from a wheel chair to walking with a walker. He will have his first CT scan in 4 weeks. So we are hoping the tumors are smaller. I want to wish you the best, I will put both of you in my prayers... As I have lost both parents to cancer and watching my brother fight it now, I as a caregiver knows that its very stressful on everyone. But you must not give up, keep fighting this monster!

Hi all, Update on my brother. So far his pain is much better. He is able to walk now. The dr.'s did increase the Nexavar to 4 pills a day, but after one week the inside of his mouth got real sore, so he is back down to 2 pills a day. He is still taking the rad001 also. He will go in another week for CT Scan. And then later for a bone scan. We are hoping to hear some good results. Conie
