HI there - I was on topotecan from July 07 until February 08. I found the side effects to be fairly mild. I did experience hair loss and had to watch my red blood count closely. I did have to have a transfusion in November 07. Why is you doctor putting you on topotecan? When I relapsed I went on Gemzar alone in Sept. 06( I developed an allergy to the carboplatin) and stayed on that until July 07 when we saw progression. I went off the topotecan in February when we saw more progression. Now I am going to Dana Farber in Boston and doing the Carboplatin desensitization program. So now I am on Carboplatin alone. The topotecan kept things stable for about 6 to 7 months. I was dx'd 4/04 stage IV.Diane

My mom is fighting PPC- not the same as ovarian but similar. She was on Carboplatin/Taxol for 6 rounds. It worked well and she was in remission for 6 months. Then it came back and they put her on Doxil. She had 3 rounds before they determined it wasn't working. Then she started Topotecan. My mom will finish up the 2nd round of this chemo drug today. She gets it every day for 5 straight days and then 2 weeks off and then starts again. Will be for 5-6 rounds. Today is the last day of her 2nd round. The first round was tough and she definitely was very fatigued aftewards- required 2 pints of blood and shots of procrit to get her hemoglobin and white blood cells up. She is feeling much better now and much more energetic. Great news is that they told her yesterday that he CA 125 is down to 485. It was at 785 the day she started the first round so this is great news and seems to indicate that this drug is working.
