Would like to talk to anyone that has this cancer. Hi, Sorry about your diagnosis. I was dx with 3c almost 3.5 yrs ago. Had a 14 hr debulking surgery and ip chem at the time of surgery before they closed. Had scans every 6 mos and after 18 mos., some enlarged lymph nodes and spots showed. I had had iv taxol/carboplatin - 6 txs. after the surgery, so really had just over a year of cancer free time. I did go back to work. I had taxetere/carbo for 6 txs, then was stable for 6 mos and 6 mos later more enlargement and spots and started an gemzar/carboplatin. Finishing my last tx next week and scans have shown everything shrunk and i am stable. Will have another scan in Sept. CA 125 has not been reliable for me. Have you had scans? Are you in remission? I would suggest scans every 3-4 ms. I feel i should have had them. Otherwise above tx. was also sanctions by md anderson and memorial sloane kettering. Let me know your details. If you are or will have chemo in the future and have nausea try sniffing vanilla extract - it works for me. Most cancer pts die from starvation - so eat. Limit sugar as cancer cells feed on sugar. Stay positive and make plans for every month that include fun things. I have out lived 1 dr that died suddenly at the age of 56, so there is no guarantee. Nor do we have an expiration date on us!! Attitude, faith, and a good oncologist are the main things in doing well. Hope to hear back Jo

Hi My mother was diagnosed in October2007 after undergoing surgery at Sloan Kettering. She had 9 months of chemo prior to surgery and Gemzar for 3 months after. Currently being treated with Doxil for a new abdominal tumor. Diagnosed with stage3c cancer. Feeling well but wondering if she should have had Cisplatin and etoposide instead.. She is 72 years young. She is being treated in N.C. currently but going to Sloan in June for second opinion.

Thank You for your response. I had a 6 in, x 3 in. mass removed last May, I have undergone 6 chemo's & 29 radiation treatments and doing well. Just had my 2 mo. blood test and all looks good the Dr. said. My CA125 was 6 this time 7 last time. I hope it will change if the cancer starts up again. No scan yet so don't know when they will do again. Had one after first chemo. It is such an aggressive cancer that I am concerned. My spirits are up and I have returned to work. The hair has grown in all grey which I have decided at 67 I'll keep. Wishing you well and keep the faith.

hi joanie b,I came across your posted message, and I see you are being treated at MSKCC. Did you have Ovarian Cancer? What stage? Care to Share? I hope you are currently doing well.I am Irene, being treated at Memorial Slone Kettering for Stage IIIC OC.I had surgery in July 06,started IP chemo,Taxol & cisplatnium,18 treatments with Avastin added until June 07, had a bowel obstruction which ended with Avastin. Then in March 2008, my ca125 started rising slightly, confirmed a possible recurrence. My oncologist has put me on Femara(an estrogen inhibitor used mostly for breast cancer) since May 1st,08. I guess this was to do something instead of nothing before going on chemo again. I have a Ct scan on June 20, next week. So in conclusion, I was in remission for 15 mths. Ironically, my sister, 3 years older than me also had Ovarian Cancer 1 week before I was diagosed. She had stage 4. did carbo & taxol for 8 cycles in Fairfax, VA. She's doing well. Thank God. We were not strangers to this disease, our mother died 37 years ago, within 3mths, when nothing was known of and little treatment available. We were no ignorant of this Cancer, but not agressive enough either, nor were our gyn's.I hate this disease and sometimes it's consuming and that's all I worry about. I have been feeling better and not as depressed. Please share with me your experiences and advice. Bless you.Irene

Jo,Thank you for your comments. It's something we have to live with and just pray it doesn't come back. It was a year May since my surgery with 6 chemo's ending in Oct. and then 29 radiation treatments ending in Jan. I go every 2 months for CA125 and exam. It has been a year July since my, only, pet scan. If the Dr. doesn't say anything about another scan on my next visit, I'm going to request one. Especially after reading these postings. I have returned to work and doing well. Were you able to work during you second chemo. Just hope I don't have to go thu it again but this is such an aggressive cancer it not sounding good. I sometimes wonder if I should read all this informationa but I do WANT to know as the Dr. can't say. Oh well on to another day. Thanks again.Ella from California
