Pain in Head and Neck 2 Yrs Post Surgical

My husband has recently experienced severe cramping and pain on side of neck where he had a radical neck disection 2 years ago. I don't think the cramping is too unusual and I beleive physical therapy would help. Jim has not followed through too well with this. The new pain on the opposite side is at the base of skull and was so intense it kept him awake all last night. I wonder if any other head and neck cancer survivors have experienced similar symptoms and what they did to alleviate them. I would guess it may be a side effect of radiation but don't know for sure. Any info would be appreciated.

Pain in Head and Neck

Has he had a CT scan done to make sure there is no reoccurence? I had my surgery in September 2004 and I suffer with pain in the neck and shoulder area almost constantly. I have tightness and pulling all the time. Just something that I figured I was going to have to live with since I had so much done during surgery. Good luck and God Bless You. Sue

Pain in The Head and Neck

I too have had radical surgery on my jaw . I have had 3 flaps and 30 treatments of radiation. After a year or more I am having a lot of pain in my neck and shoulder. I'm taking pain medication but I still live with a lot of pain. I was diagnosed with mucoepidermal carcinoma in April of 2003. Living with pain is part of it. I'm so thankful the cancer is gone, and I have a MRI every three months to make sure.

Pain in Head and Neck... and Shoulders

Hi my name is chris. i first had cancer six years ago i was told that i had less than a year to live but with the help of chemo and radio therapy i am still hear today. ( however ) four and a half years down the line it came back with avengance. i was told that my options where limited because of the amount of radiotherapy i have had in the past. my options where skin grafts to the neck and then radiotherapy or a radical neck disection i chose the latter at the time it seemed the lesser of two evils onece again nothing is what it seems as you probably know after surgery and many bottles of fat drain off ? dont know if you had the same thing but after the staples where taken out the pain started and the tightness took its toll. at first it seemed manageble until some of the numness wore off and then more pain began. after seeking advice from the surgen who worked on me he perscribed some pills called amitriptyline and not only did they help the pain they helped with the depretion and sleep. they are in no way a cure but i find they help a lot however once again like yourself after a while i was told that physiotherapy might help head movement so iwent and had a talk with a young lady who asured me that she would be taking it nice and steady and she was as good as her word. but after the first session i noticed that i was getting pains back that i first had after my oporation and like yourself it traveld over my shoulders and to the base of my scull it also felt like someone had put a net over my brain and was pulling on it giving me a permanent head acke. this is only recent so at the moment apart from 100 mg per evening of amitriptyline i have just started to take ( co dydramol ) two tablets 4 times a day and ( arthrotec 75 ) one tablet twice a day. not shure of the resolts yet only just started but i will let you know soon hope this is some help let me know. reg chris.
