LEEP Procedure just done today...too fast??

Hi everyone -I just had the LEEP procedure performed just a little while ago due to Severe Dysplasia diagnosed by my doctor from my Colposcopy a few weeks ago. Luckily I had two friends who had the procedure done in recent years so I was pretty prepared as to what to expect (including all of my online research). Everything I read said the procedure would take between 20-30 minutes. Does that mean from the start of walking into the room until you are finished and dressed or is that how long the actual LEEP work should last?I was called back at 3:45pm and went to the restroom. From there, I went into the room...undressed...doctor came in...you know the rest. I was back up and dressed by 4pm and walking out the door...so 15 minutes from the start of walking back to walking out and leaving...Is it possible that I just had a couple of small areas of severe dysplasia so that was the reason for the quickness, or should I be concerned that my doctor didn't do a "thorough" job of getting all of the abnormal cells?I mentioned to him that it was much faster than I expected and he said "yep, we're quick here..."Anyone have any thoughts? He's supposed to be a great doctor, but I was just a little worried. Has anyone else had a LEEP procedure this quick? Thanks in advance!Melissa

I mentioned to him that it was much faster than I expected and he said "yep, we're quick here..."Wow. That's a very obnoxious, flippant statement to make to somebody who just went through something like that. I would fire a doctor who said something like that, on the spot. He may be considered one of the best, but how comfortable are you with what he did? When I realized how invasive LEEP was, I insisted having it done in outpatient, under general anesthesia. I wish I knew what to tell you because from everything I have read and have been told, it takes 30 minutes to start the prep work to finish the actual cutting. What have other women who have had that doctor said about the time frame? Did the doctor give you any kind of explanation as to how much was removed? Did you see the lab report? Did the doctor explain how extensive the dysplasia was, where it was located, and if anything else was involved? I'm sorry you've been left feeling you were pushed along an assembly line. It is your right to have a doctor who feels more compassion for patients. Your body is more precious than that!

My LEEP procedure took 15 minutes too. There is absolutely no reason to do this procedure under general anethesia, the local anethesia works just fine. General anethesia is putting yourself at additional unnecessary risk. You had Dysplasia, so I would not have expected you to have been in there for very long. I understand how scary this whole process can be, but you need to make sure that your concerns are rooted with information and not just being scared of the unknown. If you are still concerned, I would go to a second doctor and have them validate the direction your doctor is going. Hopefully, this will give you a warm comfy. From what I can tell, it is in line with my experience too and nothing stands out as being something you should be concerned with. Please look at the other posts on people's LEEP procedures. Most of them are very positive and very quick. I have not heard of any of them being done under general anethesia.

Thanks for your reply. I have since done a little more internet searching and found others saying the actual time of the procedure was as short as around 8 minutes. Good to know that there are others out there that were quick. I guess when I read that 20-30 minutes was the average, I assumed that was the time of the actual procedure and work they were doing and not the start to walk into the room to getting dressed and leaving time. I talked to one of my friends and she said hers lasted about an hour...so maybe it does just vary from person to person.......... Thanks again!

I have a discharge in which my doctor says that is normal. The bad part was trying to pass a BM that crap hurts really bad, but /i survive the pain. I can honestly say that this procedure is what I needed after having some many COLOP done in the last few months I wanted it all over with. So I hope that when I do go back on the 29th of this month everything is GOOD. Roxie
