I recommend tong ren to most everyone I know and usually post on Esophageal board, with an occasional note under Alternative. Have a friend who also has EC, and had terrible residual neuropathy from chemo. After several months of working with us, mostly on the stage 4 conference call line, his neuropathy is at bay (he wore gloves all the time when we met a few months ago because his hands were so cold all the time). His esophageal growths are smaller for no apparent reason (no treatment currently beyond tong ren), athough he is experiencing growth of a liver metastasis. Now that we know it's there, we will be focusing more on the liver, and he is considering therasphere to get a leg up on it and buy time to continue with tong ren. Tong ren is a form of energy healing, so there are no side effects. Essentially, it either makes you feel better or does no harm (unlike so many traditional treatments). We have continued to use traditional treatment with our tong ren practice, although some people forego treatment and only seek alternatives (EC is too aggressive for me to be comfortable with that choice). Fortunately, tong ren has meant less of the traditional treatment than we might have needed otherwise, and that he is able to survive and recuperate from the traditional treatments. So far we have been blessed to have none of the residual side effects from the chemo drugs. There has been a study done with Harvard Medical School and Dana Farber, and I believe the results are due to come out any day now. As hokey as is sounds, it appears to be working in many cases, to the point where a study was funded and conducted in a top med school and cancer center. Something to think about folks! Even the top cancer centers are looking at alternatives for use with traditional treatments, such as acupuncture, homeopathy, nutritional supplements. I hardly think places like MD Anderson and Dana Farber are throwing their precious research $$$ at something they don't believe could have any benefit.
