SIR-Spheres

My sister is getting ready to receive this therapy. I understand what it does but what side effects are associated it with it? How long does it take, and what is the follow up procedure after the treatment? Thanks, Brenda

Hi. I saw that no one had replied to your message, so I thought that I would. My mom was recently (one week ago) diagnosed with bile duct cancer/Klatskin's tumor. In my research, SIR-Sphere treatment caught my attention. We are headed to Gainesville and Jacksonville, FL this coming week where they do this treatment, for an evaluation. The website for it is www.sirtex.com. It is a few weeks since you posted your message..has your sister been treated yet?All the best, John

RE: SIR-Spheres

Hey there, I am sorry to hear about your mother. After extensive tests at Mayo-Jacksonville they decided the spheres were too risky for my sister's condition. They gave her a "chemo cocktail" which is being administered back here in Charlotte. She is doing pretty well but we will not know if the treatments are working until the end. She has 8 more weeks of treatment. The use of spheres depends on where the tumors are, the surrounding organs the tumors are affecting. This treatment is very individualized to the logistics of the cancer. Just because she couldn't certainly doesn't mean your mother isn't a candidate. I wish your family peace and hopefully you have a wonderful Christian network. Remember, no matter what prognosis you have been given only God, who gave your mother life, knows when He will call her home. God bless your family.
