Hi -I may be wrong but I was told that MOST gynecological oncologists are surgeons - and do the surgery with the de-bulking - and that a medical oncologist is needed for follow-up and treatment. That was the way I went. My gynecological oncologist dis consult with my medical oncologist though ( regarding any further surgeries, biopsies, etc).Hope this helped some. Good luck to you.Diane T.

Yes, I believe Diane T is correct. I have a medical oncologist following me after chemo and my gyn oncologist is in contact with him for any other surgeries. My sister, on the other hand has a gyn oncologist that follows her for everything, visits, chemo and follow up bloods in Fairfax, VA.Good luck to you. Irene

My gynecologic oncologist handled every aspect of my cancer care - surgery, chemo, and 3-month check-ups. He is also the chief of gynecologic oncology at the hospital where I had the surgery. I think I lucked out when I found him. Best of luck to you.Maria
