Deficits...here to stay?

I was wondering if anyone could share with me their experience of deficits of radiation after treatment. As you all know I posted earlier this week about slight agitation and shaking of the body from my mother-in-law. Was speaking with my father-in-law today and he was curious as to if it would get better or not...I'm not sure myself. I'm assuming the radiation did this to her brain so I wouldn't think it would get better but I don't know if it is reversible or not....God bless~

We put my dad on Depakote (haldol too strong and zyprexa didn't do anything) and he's wonderful now, about two weeks after the radiation was over was when he returned to normal. The Psychiatrist is keeping him on the Depakote. I'm not sure if Dad would have gotten better without the medicine but it is a blessing to have him back to normal and you forget most of the manic / crazy phase which I was really concerned that I'd remember him that way but I don't remember half the things he did now!

My husband had terrible shaking throughout radiation that the dr. attributed to the treatments. At the time it scared me to death. I can't remember exactly what he said caused it, but it had something to do with the body eliminating the dead tissue. This mostly corrected itself. My husband still has some twitching and shaking which we attribute to damage from the tumor and the treatment. Hopefully, some of this will rectify itself if all goes well. My husband's tumor was immediately adjacent to the motor strip so it is effecting his motor function. He also has loss of feeling on the left side of his body. I am thinking this deficit is not going away. I would think the best way to figure out if the deficits will improve is to find out the function of the part of the brain where her tumor is located.

My husband was dx'd in 2/2007. He was exhausted, shaky, needed a cane to walk up the stairs, in a wheel chair for short distances (down the block). The deficits started lifting approximately 5 months after radiation. Now he can walk just fine, is not as tired, and no longer is shaky. The radiation effects stay in your body for 6 to 12 months. You really won't know what the leftover deficits are until that time has expired. Good luck.

I was Dx June 07 with gbm iv. No seizures and I am not on any meds except Avastin and OTC vitamins. But I do suffer from short term memory loss. My coordination is not great and stairs are a challenge for me. Depth perception is skewed as well. No peripheal vision on left side so I can no longer drive. That's been the hardest-the loss of my independence.
