PSA, Lupron and outcomes

The Mayo Clinic had published an article indicating possibility that high PSA inhibits circulation growth needed by cancers and that this could possibly be one of the reasons for the generally slower growth of prostate cancer. If that is indeed the case, wouldn't the use of Lupron (or anything else that lowered PSA) have a deleterious effect on outcome?

RE: PSA, Lupron and outcomes

Hi,You have me at a disadvantage on this question.I have recurrent prostate cancer after a failed radical four years ago.....in Feb. 08 my PSA was 0.5..........two months after being on Lupron and Casodex my PSA is under 0.01. Lupron is generally the drug of choice to put the tumor into remission and shrink it before any major therapy. I should have been given it four years ago........Oncologist told me that.Prostate cancer feeds on testosterone........Lupron blocks it. And something else........don't be mistaken: prostate cancer is usually slow growing........for awhile........then it can really take off. This is not uncommon. It took my PSA four years to get from 0.00 to 0.33........then in a month it went to 0.45, and in a week it went to 0.53.Good Luck............Stan.
