Torisel

This past Thursday, I just had my 5th Torisel treatment.Last time they had to stick me 4 times before they found a vein. So next Thursday the 15th. I am having a port put in and then I am going for my Chemo. treatment right after it is installed. All the side effects that I did have are gone. The blisters in the mouth, I used Colgates Orabase for Canker and mouth sores. (CVS) and Benadryl for the blisters and itching on my feet. Another side effect that has turned up, I have not read about, but wonder if anyone else has experienced it. I have nodules turning up on my scalp. They feel like small bumps all over. Good thing I still have my hair, which covers the bumps. (I just hope they don't spread to my face, or I might end up on the Science Fiction Channel as one of those bumpy face monsters.Has anyone had this side effect, or can it be something worse?I did have a C Scan taken this morning of my abdomen/ pelvis/ chest and head. But will not know the results for a few days yet.It is a Stage 4 Kidney Cancer that I have. That's it for now, and I hope all you mothers out there have a wonderful Mother's Day. And know that all that are connected to this Cancer Compass forum as a patient or care giver for a loved one with this insidious disease, you are all in my prayers. God Bless You.... oldmom

There are 6 mestastatic lesions noted. The three largest showed decreased size as follows:Lesion 1: Left upper lobeWas.. 2.6 x 2.5..NOW: 1.5 x 1.7***********************************Lesion 2: Superior segment left lower lobe:Was .. 2.4 x 3.1 ..NOW: 1.7 x 2.7**********************************************Lesion 3:Posterior basal segment of the right lower lobeWas ... 2.9 x 3.3NOW ... 2.2 x 2.9***************************************************Bone metastases ... none evident******************************************************I consider even a small improvement better than nothing at all.. I am still receiving Torisel every Thursday through a Port. (Which I am so glad I got that. I hated getting stuck so many times. The Port has given me no troubles at all.The side effects a minimal. I still have some bumps on my head that do not really bother me. My main thing in my legs and feet. I have Edema. And my feet are so swollen that my daughter got me a pair of men's cordoroy slippers to wear for comfort..They look funny, but are comfortable.. My oncologist prescribed Lasix for me and I am taking that once a day. Hasn't helped yet. LOL. Still got big fat feet.Other than being tired all the time I guess that's about it. Tell you mom to stay strong. I will be praying for her.Take Care .... oldmom

Thanks for your prayers. They mean a lot.My mom starts torisel on Wednesday. This will be her first and I beleive she will be having a port put in as well. She has trouble walking and needs to catch her breath. This is very hard for her as she is/was a very active person and rarely sits down.I'm planning on going with her, but I'm sure my dad is quite capable of looking after her. She is only 66 and too young to go through this. But with cancer age doesn't matter.I'm glad to hear your treatments are going well and I will also pray for your health as well.Wendy

Can anybody tell us how long my Dad might have??? The doctors want give us any straight answers. He is 77yrs.soon to be 78. He started chemo 8 wks. ago. He is very weak, mouth sores, coughing up blood. The Drs. dont seem to be concern but we are. We are afraid this is the end. He has no will, we lost our Mother in March. He is still grieving.I guess I just need someone to talk to. THANKS, BEA

My dad is not getting straight answers from his doctors, but i also think that he does not want to hear the truth.I don't even have the heart to tell him as I too am in denial a bit and don't want my dad to give up on the fight to live as long as possible. My dad knows that on torisel the information says that the average lifeexpectancy on the drug is 11 months. So he is defiantly knowing it issooner than latter. I am also telling my dad to get things in order he is 62 years old. He is starting to. I work in the cancer field and the doctors I work with have told me that My father has anywhere from months to years, depending on how the target agent torisel works. My dad too has stage iv renal cell cancer. It is the hardest thing to have to go through losing a parent. i wish that this was not the reality, but we have to also focus on spending good quality time and enjoy them everyday and live as much as possible as we will have time to be mad, sad and all the other emotions that go along with this and miss them when they are gone. It is hard to say how long your dad mine, or anyone else's has as we are not God, there is not enough info as to where the cancer has spread. How extensive it is. I however from reading these responses from patients believe anything can happen. You should talk to your father about setting up his wishes as to how he want things to be done. His will, advance directives so there are no questions that you will make as your father gets towards the end. He is probably having a hard time dealing with it all. Aslo, I am so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Good luck and bless you and your family.C
