Clear Cell Renal Cancer

My husband has been diagnosed with clear cell renal cancer with mets to lungs, lymph nodes, hip bone, ribs, and spine. He just had a large (over 9.5 cm) tumor and left kidney removed. He also has a 2 cm tumor on the right kidney. We are still kind of in shock and I'm trying to get as much info as possible. He's starting radiation for pain/saving the hip bone this week and then we'll have to look into the Interleukin-2 treatment...which we have not been given much info on. I also convinced the doctor to freeze part of the tumor for possible vaccine therapy along with the Interleukin-2. This is a high grade (4) cancer and my husband is at stage IV. Does anyone have any info? They thought it was VHL at first (which would put the rest of the family at risk also) but now they don't think so...we'll know for sure from genetistist in 2 months. Any help is appreciated...Thank you!

RE: Clear Cell Renal Cancer

Hi there. Sorry to hear about your news. Just got mine as well.I had what I thought was a fractured collarbone that calcified but that would have been too easy. Doc wanted ctscan and a tumor showed up in my right kidney. So I just had the kidney removed last Friday. Being that the lump on my shoulder is a tumor it is considered metastsized even though it is not in my lymph nodes or any other major organ. I'm expecting it to also show up in my bones when I get the bone scan done soon. Very scared. They are putting me on that new drug Sutent which is very highly touted. Have you tried that yet? Supposed to work wonders.
