TT body aches hypocalcemia

Hi I am new to this. I am 50, female, 5 children, 1 cutey tween left in the nest. I had a TT done 4 weeks ago. 4/14/08. Multi focule papillary cancer, Doc was suspicious so did a re-section took 15 lymph nodes, tested some no cancer, said still a chance it may have metasised and the RAI will seek and destroy. I will be having that done in June. What a fun summer! Sorry, I have felt like crap ever since before this surgery. I went through an extra day at the hospital a couple of weeks after the surgery. My calcuim was so low everything in my body was twitching and tingling, hands feet legs, mouth even my eyes were twitching I felt like I was going to go into a convulsion. After receiving IV calcium (my arms look like I am a veteran IV drug user and they ache so bad) I am on 3-400mg Citrical 4x per day and rx cacitriol 2- 2x per day. I have had alot of body aches (my ankles and heels really hurt this is new) I am not overweight (YET!) I am getting myself mentally ready for that phase. I downloaded the ThyCa cookbook it looks like it offers alot of diferent ideas. Glad I know how to cook from scratch! Don't get me wrong I feel damn lucky and thank God that this wasn't something worse but I am not the tough it up type person anymore. I have had alot of "stuff" go on in my life over the last few years and this one is just a little more wind out of my already windless sails. I would enjoy some messages thank you

Plus I blew a cold sore on my lip overnight usually part of the achy! I've have actually been thinking about takind a leave of absence at work (with the support of my husband (wow)) for June and July. I move around at home more than work anyway because I have a desk job. Plus I have a tweenager that I could spend more time with. I guess some people can get through this with not to much angst but I am weak person I guess. I am still trying to deal with the loss of one of my children two years agol He was hypocalcemic. I wish I knew then what I know now. I would have hand fed him his tums.On a more positive note. You are right about the "summer" part of this diet that really doesn't sound to bad! But oh the cheese I love the cheese. That will be the hardest food part. Margarita's here I come. thanks

I didn't find the LID too much trouble; I used my breadmaker a lot. I was told to avoid things in cans because some places rinse cans in iodine solution as a last step. Who knows?Anyway, I suggest in prep for LID that you prepare what you can ahead of time because if you have to go hypo for RAI you will be less and less motivated to cook.Good luck (I did the LID RAI process with an 8 month old son).

I just got out of the hospital after spending 5 days post thyroidectomy. I also was blessed with hypocalcemia and it's freaky side effects. The worst was the uncontrollable clenching of my hands, rendering them useless. Being hooked up to the EKG for a solid 5 days was no fun either!I was treated with IV calcium and magnesium for the first two days. Right now I am taking 1200 mg calcium every 6 hours. I hope this is temporary for us both!Just letting you know you are not alone!
