I get them very often.I've read that a Doctor can prescribe something that helps with them. Has anyone done this?My concern is...........A.,,,,,,,,,,does it work? B. .......Does it mess with the effectiveness of the Lupron? Many thanks...................Stan.

I get hot flashes with the Lupron, but I personally feel its a plus. Sweating from the hot flashes burns up calories which in turns helps keep your weight lower. My weight has dropped 8 lbs since starting lupron. And you know lupron is not really benedicial for your heart- so I look at this way it keeps me more trim and not get overwieght. So good things can occur with the uncomfortable at the same time. Tip- drink or use fat free soy milk with your cereal, avoid meat and dairy products and avoid eggs.Good luck

Side effects and hot flashes can often be helped with;time, nutrition, exercise, supplements, soy, red clover, medications. Things that can cause problems are hot drinks, coffee, alcohol, spicy food, intense exertion.

Stan:Some men (and women) claim St John's wort is effective. Megastrol (Megace) is commonly prescribed for your symptoms. Some studies found that it may have encouraged cancer growth though nothing conclusive was found. Progesterone or estradiol (female hormone components) will likely be effective and have the added bonus of reducing bone loss from the Lupron effect. Cost for these is low, by comparison to Lupron. No man should suffer these effects unnecessarily.

After removal of the insert said hot flashes declined in both frequency and severity until they finally stopped completely after about six months. So now my PC is in remission (PSA >0.01) and I am a whole man again.Enough said!!Don

Megace worked on me but it makes you ravenous. Clonodine, (Catatapress tts-1) is what I am on now and it also works without increasing appetite. Also better for your heart than Megace. I had them so bad i could melt a snowbank at 20 yards.

Ditto to that!!! I felt hungry when I was so full I couldn't possibly safely eat anything else. Thank God they didn't last long and I was able to quit taking Megastrol.

Hi,I have had some extreme side effects from my Lupron and was wondering if any others have. The Hot flashes/flushes for sure, but I am GAINING weight. I use to be an avid weight lifter prior to the cancer. I have tried getting back into it, but my muscles and joints just plain hurt. My muscles are now fat. My wife gives me Black Cohosh root for the hot flashes, they still exist, but nearly as often as they did. I was just wondering if anyone else on Lupron is experiencing bone and muscle pain like I am. I am also experiencing numbness in my hands and feet and have noticed as of late, that my feet are swelling.I have NOT had my prostate removed. I have Type IV, it was found in my lymph nodes (I had them removed). I have had Casodex, Lupron, one treatment of Zometa, 25 sessions of tomotherapy and then an HDR. I have had bone scans, bone densities, MRIs and they all come back okay. My last PSA was.05Just wondering if any others have similiar symptoms and if it is tied to the Lupron as my onocologist says he has not heard of anyone having this severe of pain with Lupron. Thanks.....Fred
