Tamoxifen

Hi I am on Tamoxifen for 5 years. I am worried about the side effects. . I am particularly concerned about the risk of womb cancer. Having just been through breast cancer I do not want to increase my chances of getting womb cancer. My onc says the risk is very small and Tamoxifen will help precent breast cancer from returning. Any comments appreciated.

I had the same concerns before starting tamoxifen. My gyn was very understanding and suggested that each year when I do my pap test that she actually biopsy my uterus to be sure there is no cancer. It is painful, so she has me take one valium and one pain pill 30 minutes before my appt. It worked fine and was just uncomfortable, but worth it to know that there is no sign of cancer. Good luck. Jenny

I've just started on Tamoxifen too. It can have positive side effects too. It has dampened my appetite it's made portion controll alot easier. So I've been loosing weight. A much needed thing. I haven't had any other side effects. To me, I'm more concerned about developing cancer in my remaining breast than I do about a rarer cancer. From what I understand, the tamoxifen displaces the estrogen from any cancer cell, and hopefully starve them to death.Kaybear

I understand how you feel. It like lets get rid of and keep one type of cancer from returning and give you something that may cause uteran cancer. My onco said oh well it's easy to cure we can just do ao hysterextomy. I am on the tamoxifen also for 5 years and I am actually starting to bruise real easy so I guess next week they might change my medication, I have already had to change my anxiety and depression meds to effexor but the great thing abou that is it got rid of all the hot flashes that the tamoxifen was causing and the terrible mood swings. Shew we my husband deserves a metal, all I did was cry for about 2 weeks, but 3 months in I am alot better, emotionally. SO IF YOU GO THROUGH SOME TOUGH TIMES MAKE SURE YOU TELL THE DOC they can help you they understand what the medication does to us. Kristine
