Stage 4 Colon Cancer Matastisized to lower spine

My husband had Colon Cancer stage 1 cancer almost 16 yrs ago now at age 56 he has stage 4 cancer tumor 9 cenimeters on his lower spine but no where else??? (CEA level 84). What I have been reading Colon Cancer spreads mostly to liver or and lungs, this dosn't sound good this time around I am trying to get honest answers here from this sight I haven't read much on Cancer I thought we were out of the woods. We are going into his Chemo (Newer Trial they call it) late next wk with possitive outlook and with Gods help we can get thru this again. Sad to say the last 3-4 yrs the dr has been treating my husband with Siatica nerve just giving him meds, that Dr is on leave for a surgery or I would give him a piece of my mind why didn't he run more tests sooner since he had cancer prior? this Dr was even the one who helped diagnose his 1st cancer prior go figure? I'm still in shock it has been almost 2 wks since we found out my Ed's cancer returned I feel like someone please wake me from this nightmare. Thanks for listening and I hope to get some answers simular to ours or any info will help. God Bless!

I am very sorry that your Husband is having this again. I can't help you but only empathize and hope I can at least bring you a moment of comfort in that I am witnessing my husband with his stave iv colon cancer except it metastisized to his liver...as a very unprofessional and insensitive Oncologist said to my husband and I at our second opinion, "look at them, they're all over the place...there aren't any margins"...in response to looking at his CT scan of the cancer tumors in his liver. I thought, "what the heck are 'margins'"? After being at one facility for 5 rounds of chemo and it not working and the provider not willing to change the chemo mix, we moved to another facility for his care. Unfortunately, the mistake of the first provider, I feel, was devesatating to my husbands treatment. My prayers are with you as you battle ...search the internet for information on what your husband has, you will probably find info...some you want to see and some you don't, as you might already know.Take care

My family doctor was out for 2 yrs fighting his own cancer,So I was seeing his assistant at the time.As I was complaining with lower back pain he was telling me it was all in my head, never did any test or anything and I told him colon cancer runs in my family. When my family doc returned to his practice I went to him and he immediately started doing test. By then it was stage 3. Had the assisatant done test 2 yrs prior i feel it would have been caught at an earlier stage. ANyway I had surgery and chemo for 8 months and ct scans done every year to be sure it would stay in remission. Well it has but my point is about being tested for recurences.I was tested again in dec 07 and was still in remission for the colon but found out that I had ampullary cancer this time. Had the whipple procedure done in feb and 6 weeks of radiation and oral chemo. I will be tested again in July to be sure everything is going the way I pray it should be going Please never give up as there are new treatments every day for all stages of cancer.I would check out MD Anderson in Houston they are top of the line for stage 4 colon. My prayers are with you and your husband. God Bless! and Good Luck!
