My father recently experienced regrowth after 7 yrs of clean MRI's. His first tumor was an astrocytoma but on regrowth he now has a GBM. he had surgery 2 wks ago to remove the tumor which was succesful but there is definately still malignant cells present in his brain. As of Mon of this past week he has been completly off decadron. My question is, has anyone experianced increases irratability after finishing steroids? While he was on them, my dad was somewhat snippy, but now he is getting angry and lashing out over small things. I was wondering if others had experienced this ....

Wow! Surgery 2wks ago & already off steroids? Does he complain of headaches or any pain (is the irritability's source pain?)? I wonder if he was weaned off the steroids too quickly (It is a hormone & can wreak havoc on one's psyche!) ? What's the location of the tumor site? Could manipulation of that brain area contribute to a change in personality/moods? NikkiCaring for my 59yo Mom Dx GBM 10/07 w/resection; Rad/Temodar x6wks; Gamma Knife 5/08 r/t 2 small regrowths; on Temodar 5/23

My husband DX March 08-surgery went well. Now on & off steroids.Very cranky on some days. It's hard to know if it is the drugs or the fact that they have been dealt a devastating blow to their life plan. Being patient and kind or just staying out of his way!!

I think that they took him off as soon as possible b/c he is a diabetic. the steroids really wack out his blood sugar. He says he isn't in any pain except for a persistant muscle spasm in his neck. he attributes this to bad positioning during surgery and the pain has been controled, first with muscle relaxers, and now with tylenol. the tumor was located just anterior to his supplemental motor cortex. He couldn't move his left side at all, post surgery, but he is now moving the arm and the leg and has progressed to using a walker( with support). all of the PT's are astounded with how fast he has improved....I guess i'll have to chalk this up to the surgery...cuz that could make anyone get a little grunpy....
