Bone Marrow Biopsy

My Dad is a Stage IV, CC, w/mets to liver and lungs, diagnosed July 2007. Had 12 rounds of Avastin w/5 Leuc. Was off chemo for 1 1/2 months. Doc suggested 6 more treatments, and is switching my Dad to Camptostar w/5 Leuc b/c of side effect (Dad had numbness in his fingers w/Avastin).Was supposed to receive first Camp. treatment today, but was refused since his white platelets are low. Doc set up appt to do a bone marrow biopsy to determine cause of low platelets. Have any of you out there had this done, or know of anyone who has? What other possible reasons would they have for doing something that to me, seems drastic? He had a CT scan in early April and it showed the lung mets to be stable, no better no worse, and the liver mets were thought to be "dead cancer" whatever that means.Any insight would be helpful and appreciated.Thank you and God Bless.
