Erbitux

My mother has fighting colon cancer for the last 5 years. She has had 3 surgerys and heading towards a possible 4th. she just finished 12 weeks of an experimental drug that did nothing for her. We left Erbitux as a last FDA drug to try. It sounds promising in this latest article, but her ongologist has suggested using the "sister drug" to Erbitux because the side effects are not as severe. Does anyone know if the sister drug ( the name is slipping my mind right not now) is as effective?

RE: Erbitux

I am not sure about what the sister drug of Erbitux is, but my Dad was diagnosed in February with Stage IV colon cancer and as soon as chemo began, Erbitux was part of his treatment. He has developed a rash, which looks more like acne than anything, but other than that he has managed fine with it! We are awaiting the results of his first CT scan and I suppose until then we will not know how the Erbitux is actually doing, or any drug for that matter, but on the outside he looks wonderful and his appetite, energy, and life have returned.

The sister drug is probably Vectibix and from what I have heard in combination with chemotherapy it has close to the same effects. But I haven't researched it that much. Hang in there....

I'm currently using Cetuximab on my Erbitux clinical trial. I don't know if that's the sister drug of the generic. I'm responding well to this treatment, consistently seeing a reduction in all tumors. Good luck!
