CancerCompass message board discussion started by StaceyJo on 6/13/2008 http://www.cancercompass.com/message-board/message/all,24997,0.htm Thu, 04 Dec 2008 00:00:00 GMT Thu, 04 Dec 2008 00:00:00 GMT http://backend.userland.com/rss RSS.NET: http://www.rssdotnet.com/ My dad has stage 3B Colon cancer.  Surgery on April 29 removed a fist sized tumor.  He is still in the hospital (going on 7 weeks)  due to multiple abscesses/infection in the colon.  Is this commen?  He has lost so much weight and his spirits are very low due to the length of time in hospital and so many set backs.  He has not been able to receive treatment for the cancer as of yet.  We are in dispair trying to figure out what to do.  Please respond. StaceyJo Fri, 13 Jun 2008 00:00:00 GMT So sorry about your dad's complications.  They need to clear up any infection before starting chemo since chemo wipes out a lot of the white blood cells, which are needed to fight infections.  Even with a surgery with no complications, the patient is usually given a month to rest, heal and gain some strength before starting chemo.  Express your concerns to the dr. and maybe his explanation will relieve some of your anxiety.  I know this is hard.  Good luck.  Please keep us posted on his progress.Lynn 2ndtimer Tue, 17 Jun 2008 00:00:00 GMT Update-   Day 73 in hospital.   He is undergoing a 3rd surgery this morning to close up a whole in his small intestine that did not clear up on its own and hopefully drain the rest of his 3rd abscess out.  Our fingers are crossed!  The doc said if all goes well, he could get out in 2 weeks.  I hate to get my hopes up though.  That commment from him is sounding redundant.  Say a prayer for him!  His namen is Pete.
