Okay I need help this time my dad finished treatment #7 and is in acute kidney failure and is very sick, he is in the hospital and they had to put a port in to start kidney dialysis. The chemo Dr said it is from the torisel. So we have to wait to see if the dialysis is going to work and if it at all possible reversible, only 10% of kidney was functioning. They will switch dad if possible to sutent if he gets better. Oh how hard this is. It happened with in a week. Anyone else with this problem? This is rare, but apparently can happen it is in the side effects of drug.Need some encouraging words right now.Daddy's girl

Unfortunately the drugs we take to save our lives can sometimes backfire. Did they do a scan to look at the kidney? I assume he has one kidney left? You are in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us updated.Texas Lil

hello there Texas lit. I just finished crying my eyes out as my dad is not getting better from the dialysis and is considering Hospice (thank goodness) as they need the help. His Dr will talk to him tommorow about it. He is only out of bed for his treatment of dialysis three times a week He is too week and sick to even say hello on the phone. My husband and I are going out there this weekend to see and help out as much as possible they live far from us oppisitends of the state. Yes, He has one kidney and they take blood levels to check kidney functions which where very high creatine of 11 which are normal at values 0.1-1.2 so they diagnosed him with acute renal failure and only 10% fuctioning, well now about three weeks later with no improvement the chemo doctor said to my step mom to bring him in to talk about stopping dyalisis and look in to hospice. I am so sad that he will die of other complications rather than the cancer. How ironic. Anyway, I hope that this is some sort of blessing in disguase as maybe he will suffer less this way. Thanks for writting back to me as I know that I just want to know that someone out there has heard of this with torisel. I really hope my dad is a very rare case of this happening as it is auwful to see.. Daddy's little girl

He is having a small reprieve. I got to visit with him and he is getting stronger each day. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers I think that it is helping. I got to tell and write my day a letter and tell him how special he is to me and what a great dad he is and was I am so blessed to have this time to share with him. I also got approved for Family Leave so when he is there I can stay there and help. It will be hard but I will be glad to be there. Are you okay? What is your story? Do you or anyone you love have kidney cancer? I hope all is alright with you and your family/friends. Take care and thanks again.Daddy's little girl

Hi! I hope this message finds things are moving along in a more positive direction for your dad. My brother has kidney cancer also. He has one kidney, was treated with sutent for the past year..to no avail. He begins toricel this week and we are hoping for a stabiliztion with this disease. He continues to work but is very fatigued . The sutent was very difficult for him but he is such a fighter...he tries to keep his difficulty under wraps. Any info you have might be helpful. I wish you and your family well...and pray for all. Mm1113

I meant to say that the side effects are similar to Sutent. Hopefully, he will do well with it as the mouth soars, tired and a rash where common for my dad, food did not taste good and after the injection day he felt weird kind of flu like for a day or two. Itis toughfor them togo through. It is good that he keeps plugging along. He already made it a year. =-) So hopefully the torisel will shrink and keep things at a bay. Daddy's little girl
