For a while now Dad has been having pain with his teeth.  We don't know if its MM related or not.  Has had a couple of root canals but dentist has said they can't do anymore. Dad has been having pain with his teeth for a while now.  Dad keeps telling them just to pull the teeth.  The dentist and Dr. that did his root canals both say no that if they keep pulling them he won't have any left.  The Dr. that did the root canals sent him back to his dentist today.  So now they think it might be something with his gums.  They are sending him to a surgeon about his gums next.  I want to see if others with MM have had trouble with their teeth and gums.  So if you can help with this info I would appreciate it.  I asked Dad today if he thought it might be bone pain. He said he had no idea and neither does either dentist. Your friend,Anna Dear Anna,Is your father getting Zometa, a bone hardener that is given IV, as part of his treatment for MM?  If he is, you may want to contact his oncologist, as the tooth pain (jaw pain) may be a side affect of the Zometa.  Take care.Jan wevebeenthere Mon, 30 Jun 2008 00:00:00 GMT From Anna,Hi Rita, Yep he does. Was just doing a little reading. I'm thinking like you are that it might be the Zometa.  I found a couple of links and emailed them to Dad's email.  Do you know of anywhere I might look to get more info?Your friend,Anna Anna9563 Mon, 30 Jun 2008 00:00:00 GMT My oncologist took me off Zometa for that very reason and early tooth pain could be a sign, check immediately with your oncologist and ask to temp stop the Zometa. I remembered later.  He did take him off briefly but put him back on. I found some info for Dad yesterday on Dead Jaw that he printed and will take to his Dr. the next time he goes.  We'll see if he pulls him off Zometa again or not.Your friend,Anna  Anna9563 Wed, 02 Jul 2008 00:00:00 GMT Hello,Sorry to hear that your dad has been having pain with his teeth.  I also have MM and had the same problem a few months ago. In fact I had several abscess come up which were very painful.  I had to have root canal work done.  I am on Bonefos - which is Sodium Clodronate and read an article that it has been discovered that this can cause problems with the teeth and jaw bones.  I stopped the Bonefos while the work on my teeth was carried out but have now started the tablets again.  My consultant says that the benefit of these tablets (to strenghten the bones) far outweighs the problems it can cause the teeth.It is really important that your dad cleans his teeth two, or even three times a day and regularly sees his dentist.  In fact, the article which I read, says that you should have the teeth completely checked over, fillings done etc., before starting the Bonefos - I think that the Zometa sounds the same type of thing.Hope this will be of some help.Good wishes Phyl Summerday Mon, 07 Jul 2008 00:00:00 GMT From Anna,Hi Phly, Thanks for the info.  I'll email it to Dad. Your friend, Anna Anna9563 Mon, 07 Jul 2008 00:00:00 GMT
