To try to make a long story short...My mother has had colon cancer almost 3 years since her first of about 5 operations. Tried chemo and had an allergic reaction...at that point she needed some time to get stronger and when she had a blockage and had a colostomy she was put on erbitux...this worked well for several months....when it stopped working the Dr. told her to get her house in order and has put her on low dose of chemo. She has several mets in her abdomen and one under her liver...her CEA is up to 40 now and she will not have another count done for two weeks. She has been very strong, but now she is looking very aged and week. I just wish I knew what to expect and why are the Doctors giving up. They said when the cancer spreads that the first symptoms would be pain in her stomach. Has anyone else gone through this. No cancer in bones, lungs or liver yet. Also to much scar tissue to operate again. Thanks for any information

My moher died in october of colon cancer and she suffered terribly after numerous chemos and treatmens and surgeries etcetera. If I had it to o all over again, I would not have let her suffer, but would have let her eacefully go. She waned to fight with everything she had,but after 3 weeks on a espirator, there is nothing nothing nothing the doctors could have done. I should have taken her home and let her die in her own 4 walls, but I kekpt hoping...and I think she did too. Peace be with you. Make sure there is no pain. Pray. Read. Take comfort in the joys of your life together.
