Enlarged spleen on temodar?

Hi All, My mom has a large lump on her left side, just under her rib cage. Since I am a radiologic tech, I am pretty sure it is the spleen. She feels OK, no nausea. She is fatigued, though. She just finished 33 radiation treatments with temodar. She is "on break" right now, nothing but decadron, will get an MRI on Wednesday and is scheduled to start CPT-11/Avastin on July 29. She was diagnosed in late March and had a complete resection on April 2. One other puzzling symptom is the skin on her chest and very upper arms is super red, like a severe sunburn. It's not sunbun, though, she always covers those areas in the sun. The radiation oncologist says it is from the decadron, the oncologist says it is sunburn, which really infuriates me. She would have to be outside naked or in a tube top to get sunburn in those areas! The lump is not painful, so we will wait until Monday and call the Dr. Just wondered if anyone has experienced an enlarged spleen while on temodar or decadron? My mom read in an old medical book that spleen problems can cause red skin, so needless to say, she is very worried. Thanks and we continue to pray for all!Sue

RE: Enlarged spleen on temodar?

My husband's skin became very sensitive while on temodar. He developed acne on his back, and anywhere his clothes rubbed his body, the skin just wore away. He lived with it for quite a while before saying anything to me. We coped with it by buying him a few special items of clothing that were extremely soft such as fleece pants (it was winter). He just wore the same things all of the time. He also had to be careful with hot water in the shower & harsh soap. We found a cream called hydrisinol that you have to ask the pharmacist for that helped a lot. Now that he's had a break from temodar & is on avastin/cpt-11, his skin has mostly healed.Good luck. I hope your mom's issue is nothing seroius. Sometimes it is so hard to tell.Jackiekay

Is your Mother on Dilantin by any chance? My husband had a very severe allergic reaction to this which caused what looked like a severe sunburn. It is also called Stevens Johnson Syndrome. This put him in ICU for a week so be careful of this. He is also pretty sun sensitive right after he finishes a round of Temodar. He got very itchy after going to the beach a few days after the Temodar was done, however he didn't get that awful beat red skin that the Dilantin caused. He was switched to Keppra and has had no problems since.
