RE: diet

Too late now, but first rule in this game is use a surgeon who has done LOTS of these. It is the most complex surgery out there, and is a ton to deal with even with the best surgeons available. Perhaps family MD is a good choice. They may have a better overview and be able to direct you towards appropriate resources. Maybe you could try American Cancer Society for ideas. The local group here was very well aware of EC and the pitfalls, and although I have not used them for support, they certainly offer to provide it. They may know what is available for resources in your area. Another alternative could be another opinion elsewhere (maybe Moffitt since you're in FL-a big state I know-but several people have mentioned being happy with care there). This whole process is very frustrating and we are all very prone to burnout as caregivers. Very often the left hand does not seem to know what the right hand is going-particularly when we dealt with feeding tube issues, etc. The local VNA seemed to drop the ball every time we needed them/feeding issues and were virtually useless, so I know the feeling.

RE: diet

SassyB, I too recently had surgery. Here is a website I found that may help. I had read someone elses post about lactose intolerance after surgery. That helped me alot. I was drinking Ensure between meals and it really put me in a tailspin. Since I have been avoiding the dairy products I have not had the Dumping Syndrome. http://patienteducation.upmc.com/Pdf/DumpingSynDiet.pdf&nbsp http://health.yahoo.com/other-other/dumping-syndrome/mayocli I hope some of this helps. Good luck Craig

The University of Pittsburg has a post surgery diet. Our dietician gave us a copy. I am sure you can google it. Pete had his surgery on 16 may, and we are still struggling with eating issues in spite of following their dietary guidelines. It really seems to me that what is tolerated is very individual...and very 'hit or miss'. The idea of a 'food journal' seems a good one.All I can say is, thank god for the feeding tube!! Take careMichele/catwalk

GeorgesGirl, Thank you for the menu. I wish the hospital would have given me something like that when I was discharged. Craig
