How long to stay on Temador

Hi,I've not posted in a long time - my husband age 45 was dx 5/11/07 with gbm. he had a total resection; did the standard 6wks radiation/daily temador and has been on the 5/23 temador plan ever since. He's not had any recurrences so far thank God.He asked me today how long people stay on temador (like for years??). His oncologist said he'll stay on it for as long as it works. But i guess i'm curious about other people's time frame for staying on this chemo. Are there people out there who have been on it for years w/o issues? It has been a very easy drug for my husband to tolerate thankfully.thanks for any inputMary

My husband age 46 was diagonosed with an Anaplastic Oligodendroglioma Grade 3 on May 4, 2007. Had surgery on May 8, 2007 and then did the 6 weeks of radiation with Temodar during that period and then began the one year Temodar program 5 days on every 28 days. His ongologist has just stopped the Temodar after 12 cycles. He will have an MRI on Friday to see how his tumor is. He also has tolerated the Temodar very well with no side effects execpt for a bit more tired then usual on those weeks but it still doesn't keep him from golfing or working. His doctor said as long as tumor remains stable Temodar will be stopped if recurrance happens possible new surgery and more Temodar or other chemo options may come into play. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this MRI is good. He does have scar tissue from post radiation that has been cause for concern in the past so hopefully they will not scare us with that anymore, as it seems to put a red flag up on his MRI's lately. Scares the heck out of me everytime. Best wishes to you and your husband.

My wife has an anaplastic astrocytoma (grade III), which was diagnosed almost a year ago. She had surgery to remove about 90% of it in July and began 42 days of temodar and radiation in August followed by a 5/23 day schedule of temodar in October. She was initially given 225mg a day, but is was increased to 300mg since she was handling it so well. She did develop an allergic reaction to the temodar after a few months which is now being dealt with steriods and Zyrtec during her chemo week. The original plan was for her to stay on temodar for one year. She just finished her 10th round and at our last scan they told us she would continue to stay on temodar for 2 years, until she can't handle it anymore, or until it stops working. Her scans have looked good, with significant tumor shrinkage since we began treatments. (Whether this is due to the radiation or temodar is unknwn.)

My wife was dx Anaplastic Astrocytoma Grade III in February of 2007, had a successful surgery, IMRT radiation + Temodar. Then the doctor started her on the 5/23 Temodar with a schedule of 16 months of treatment. Due to some complications she is a bit behind schedule, but will start round #9 next Monday.

Hi I was diagnosed with Glio in Aug 05 53 yr old now. I have been on Temodor since. I had surgery placement of glidal wafers and radiation and oral chemo with the radiation. I am still on Temodar now every 8 weeks. My blood counts could not tolerate it every 4. I sill run low on WBCs and platlets but not life threating. I just saw My oncologist yesterday and will start the chemo tonight for 5 days. I still work but only 3 days a week. Fatigue is main problem some HA at time but nothing I cannot control. My diagnoses was 6-18 months. My doctor tells me he does not know what to do with me so we have decided to go about it this way. This is a good question and every one is different, Good LuckPat
