The AML can cause low platlets which can cause bruising which looks like a rash. See if you can find out what his PLT level is. Hopefully he can recover for his consolidation phase which is needed for remission.

I am on my way up to hospital this morning he just had a blood and "Radiated" sp? platlet transfusion the other day it helped his breathing . I'm going this morning to talk to DRs i'm the closet thing to family he has out here when we spoke last night they were running all kinds of tests skin biopsy cat scan Throat cultures etc saying something about an enzyme the liver isnt producing causing this bad rash and possible lessions in stomach with bacterial infection ???? I hate that i dont know any of this . They do give him a paper Daily with all his blood work counts i will grab todays. The only this i can find on the web that sounds anywhere close to what he is saying is VOD ? I Pray thats not it!Thank you for your response This is very scary and hard to understand On 7/9/2008 Oncrx wrote:The AML can cause low platlets which can cause bruising which looks like a rash. See if you can find out what his PLT level is. Hopefully he can recover for his consolidation phase which is needed for remission.

VOD is usually caused by a SCT or perhaps by the high dose chemo prior to a SCT. If I recall correctly he has not had those. The things to look for are a bilirubin > 2 , a swollen abdomen, abdominal pain or weight gain due to fluid accumulation. If he is getting platlets then he has thrombocytopenia, which could cause the rash.

well the news was not good the dr's say that the skin biopsy looks as if lukemia cells have infiltrated tissue Confirmation test being run now will know 100% tomorrow however Blood Dr said test has already been run twice They called it lukemia cutis (sp?) said that it can move to gums spine etc... The nurse said she has been at moffit on the Lukenia floor for over a year and has never seen a case like this .Is this very Rare? And if so What the heck .From what she said the worst part is he Just finished first round of chemo Mon night so he has ZERO immunity he is confused and weak today and seem to have gotten a head cold overnight too. His Blood pressure is very Low and he has low grade fever .They did give him 2 bags of blood . My biggest fear is he has kids back home who only have funds to come out 1 more time and stay a very short time HOW do i know when to call them ? What is this stuff? Everything im reading says he could only have months to live yet the dr's made it sound like they just do MORE chemo I'm super confused now . Thank you for your help

The Head of Dermotolgy has been down a few times and says He has Never seen nor heard of Lumkemia acutis happinging in Bone Marrow and THen moving to skin Its ALWAYS the other way around so he still believes the test is wrong but cant say 100% to top it off when i said he was confused and not himself well HE HAD A HEART ATTACK ..he is only 51 .I left the Hospital at 4 for awhile and he had a heart attack at 5.30 and even that didnt make sense his pain was delayed they say the heart attack must have happened hours earlier due to the Cardic Enzymes levels ? They couldnt give him any medictions other than Nitro due to the possiblity of bleeding with no platlets He is stable today and has been moved out of ICU (still has heart monitor 24/7) . Tomorrow they will repeat BM test to see if cells died . They said they will not test his heart or anymore skin biopsys till results are back Tues . SO Now we wait. I'm learning very quickly that nothing is cut and dry with Lukemia..
