Hi everyone, I'm Jean8's sister. I was diagnosed with hillar cholangiocarcinoma 4/26/07. I was reseccted last year, surgery left me with all clear margins. Two CT scan since then again both clear. Began showing signs reminisant of last year and blood work revealed high liver enzymes. CT scan is showing a new tumor 3cm. Just had a consultation with cyberknife DR. looks promising. I think I'll do chemo too. Looking for any advice. Thanks Suzen

RE: cholangiocarcinoma

Surgery + chemo sounds good to me. When you're done with all that, you might even want to have a look at some immunotherapy (like a cancer vaccine). Also, you might want to ask the surgeon to have a sample of your tumor frozen for later use. Usually they take a sample and put it in wax, but for some of the best immunotherapies, you MUST have a frozen sample. You should know that the immunotherapies, while really promising in theory, are still highly experimental and while not very dangerous, have not been terribly effective. I know where you are coming from. I had a large tumor removed from my liver and had a recurrence less than a year later. Another surgery and a whole lot of chemo later, I'm doing well, but I'm not quite in remission. Once I get into remission the plan is to get some immunotherapy, since I am at high risk of recurrence. I figure every little edge I can get helps. I think from what I've heard, cholangiocarcinoma is pretty aggressive, so you should deal with it aggressively. Surgery + chemo is a good plan. Good luck and take care!-T
