Husband With Stage iv Melanoma

My husband has Stage IV Melanoma. He was diagnosed 1 year ago (orginally given a prognosis of 6 months) We have 2 young children (1 year and 2 1/2 years) My husband is 32. I want my husband around for our daughters first day of schoool, for their graduation, for the wedding day, is that too much to ask? Is there anyone out there that is in the same situation???

Husband Stage iv

Not the same situation because I am older and my children are grown. But, I want to be around for my 3 grandsons. I am also stage IV diagnosed 2002. Most recent disease progression to lungs and treachia. I am going to under go the Biochemotherapy treatment and if that does not work the high dose interluekin. I understand other than clinical trials this is the only approved treatment and they have had some sucess with it. Maybe you and your husband should investigate this as well.

Whatever you decide and whatever your journey hang in there and never give up. This can be beaten there is always hope.

Husband With Stage iv Melanoma

We are in a similar situation. My husband is 37 and we have 3 young children. My husband was diagnosed in Feb. 2004 and 18 months later we are still FIGHTING (stage 4)!!! Don't give up!!!
I agree with one of the other messages. Go to MD Anderson. My husband is being treated there. We tried Interferon and a clinical trial but neither worked. We are now using a very aggressive approach using 3 chemos, interferon, interleukin, and thalidomide. We have seen about a 70% shrinkage of the tumors, with some completely disappearing! Most recent PET scan shows activity only where the largest tumor is located. We are hopeful that my husband will achieve complete remission. My best to you and your family.

My husband is 20 years older than me. He is 55 years old. We have a 9 yr. old son and a 6 yr. old daughter. His mother died of Ca at age 42 years old of lung Ca... mets to the brain. His dad died last year at age 75 of kidney Ca mets to bone and lung and brain; about a five year battle. So when Steve was dx'd 1 month to the day that his dad died (almost) we were devastated. He has had the wide-re-excision; sentinal node biopsy; total left axillary disection of 42 lymph nodes and 1 being positive; we are now taking a trail vaccine through the University of Va at MD Anderson. They Have been great/ please reply with any info; I am a RN in LA and Know Just enough to be dangerous....Wish I was ingnorant and bliss....Thanks for listening

Stage iv Melanoma

My dad was diagnosed with melanoma a year ago. It is currently in his lungs, stomach, and under his right arm. We are on a clinical study and he is having a bad side affect. His hands are numb and he is having pain below his knees and feet that has put him into a walker. The doctor is stopping the chemo until he can walk on his own and button his own shirt. We don't know what to do. The doctor says he does not know and only time will tell. If anyone can help me please e-mail. My dad is my world and I will do anything to get him help.

Thank You
